The Perfect Match We’re excited to announce that we’re adding a new consultant to our team! Caelie will be joining us in July and we’re stoked! 🤩 You’d think that being in the recruitment game would make the hiring process easier for us. But we know all too well that even though skills and experience are important, there is a crucial factor that can make or break the success of any team, and that’s energy, chemistry and cultural fit. So we’ve tweaked our hiring process this time round to try and better ascertain if we’re right for each other. Is there alignment between our values, personalities and our work style? In any business, especially creative agencies and creative teams, where collaboration and creativity are key, finding the perfect person and cultural fit is essential. So how do you assess cultural fit? Identify the qualities that are important to your team- for instance we are Oomf! A high-energy workplace that is built around lively interactions and meaningful connections. It’s important to us that our new starter can contribute to this high-energy ethos. Understand your culture- what values drive you and how do these guiding principles translate into achieving your goals? Our values of curiosity, care and connection have helped us assess at every stage of the hiring process if it’s a true match. Adding a new member to your team is an investment. It’s important to invest in this crucial hiring time and observe all interactions - we arranged multiple meetings to get to know each other, by phone, online, offsite (at a local café) and at our office to meet the team and a trial day so they are privy to what happens behind the scenes. If you want a team that can that can truly thrive, prioritising cultural fit is essential. Invest the time, ask the right questions. As a Recruitment Manager at Hire5.co, I've been on a journey to understand the profound role work plays in our lives. Work isn't just a nine-to-five routine; it's the heartbeat of our existence, shaping our identities and impacting our well-being. 💼 🔗 Work, in all its dimensions, connects us to the world around us. Here are some perspectives I've pondered upon: 1️⃣ Work = Curse or Necessity? 😓 For some, work may feel like an unavoidable burden, a necessary means to survive. It's the daily grind that keeps the bills paid, but it might not necessarily bring joy. 2️⃣ Work = Freedom and Independence 🌄 Work can be a path to freedom, a way to achieve independence from the constraints of both people and the harsh environment of nature. It can also serve as a creative outlet, allowing individuals to express themselves. 3️⃣ Work = Valuable Commodity 💰 In a broader societal context, work is a valuable commodity. It fuels economies, provides livelihoods, and plays a crucial role in defining a nation's economic strength. 4️⃣ Work = Occupational Citizenship 📜 Work grants individuals certain rights and responsibilities within a society. It's a cornerstone of our identity as citizens and contributes to our sense of belonging. 5️⃣ Work = Pursuit of Pleasure 😄 Some view work as a means to an end, a way to obtain pleasant things in life. It's the engine that propels us towards our desires and dreams. 6️⃣ Work = Fulfillment of Needs 🧠 Work, ideally, should satisfy individual needs, both physical and psychological. It should be a source of fulfillment, contributing positively to our mental well-being. However, when work is unfulfilling or challenging, it can detract from our psychological well-being. 7️⃣ Work = Social Interactions 👥 Work is a stage where we engage in social interactions. It was great to be invited to the SEEK Discovery session in Melbourne this morning and to attend with Ainsley Johnstone, CEO at Think Talent. We both left the session feeling more informed, more connected to the market - and as a bonus, more pink! I really enjoyed the presentations from Kendra Banks and Simon Lusted. These presentations provided much food for thought in the context of the work I do as the Chief Talent Activator at Think Talent. Some of my key takeaways included the following… ‘WFH’ is the #1 search term on SEEK right now - with flexibility being the second most important driver for candidates (behind salary). 41% of the Australia labour force is currently working from home. Right now, a massive 78% of candidates are either monitoring the job market, or actively looking for new opportunities. ‘Not getting paid enough’ is a key driver for 39% of candidates looking for a new job. ‘Looking for new challenges’ is a key driver for 30% of candidates looking for a new job. ‘A fresh start’ is a key driver for 30% of candidates looking for a new job. ‘Uninspiring work’ is a key driver for 21% of candidates looking for a new job. We are seeing high growth rates in the ‘gig economy’ with almost 30% of the Australian labour force working part-time. Around the world, technological advancement is driving increased polarisation - highly skilled work and lower skilled work across all industries, work that is routine or standardised is under pressure, and new highly specialised work is emerging eg) drone programming. In the recruitment industry, it’s the human factors that really count - candidates expect recruiters to be proactive, accessible, responsive, transparent and easy to work with. Whilst, in the past, the recruitment industry as a whole has had a bit of bad reputation, more and more candidates are reporting great experiences working with individual recruiters. To differentiate, recruiters must demonstrate real empathy, care and honesty to cultivate trust - which is great news for Think Talent, because that’s exactly how we roll and what we stand for. #talent

"When it comes to employee satisfaction and retention, two elements stand out most: purpose and pride.
