Disability Pride Month, observed in July, is a powerful celebration of the disability community's various experiences, contributions, and perseverance. This event traces its roots to 1990, when the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law, marking a breakthrough milestone in the fight for disability rights and accessibility. Disability Pride fights cultural stigmas, promotes inclusion, and raises the voices of the world's 1 billion persons with disabilities. It's time to recognize the tremendous benefit of neurodiversity and diverse skills in our organizations, communities, and society as a whole. This month, we salute the trailblazers who battled for equal rights, celebrate the distinctive perspectives and inventions that emerge from various experiences, and renew our commitment to creating a world in which everyone may fully participate and prosper. Today is National Disability Independence Day, commemorating the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) being signed into law in 1990. Despite progress being made since the passing of the ADA in 1990, there is still work to be done. Unemployment rates for people with disabilities remain unacceptably high. Access barriers persist across sectors. At Cause Inspired, our mission is to drive social change through values-driven partnerships. We work closely with nonprofits to advance equity, accessibility, and inclusion so that we can break down barriers to economic mobility, and advocating for disability rights. We embed these values across our client collaborations, community engagement, and internal practices. Together, we can build a more just, accessible world where all people are valued equally. #americanswithdisabilitiesact #accessibility #disability #disabilityawareness #disabilityinclusion #nptech

🌠 Helping nonprofit leaders turn strategic visioning into transformative, sustainable impact guided by innovation and inclusion. 🌠
🌟 Celebrate Disability Pride Month! 🌟 July is Disability Pride Month, a time to honor the history, achievements and contributions of people with disabilities. The first official Disability Pride celebration took place in 2015, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This landmark legislation ensured that people with disabilities could participate in ALL areas of public life without discrimination. Disability Pride Month, a movement born out of activism, aims to dispel myths and stereotypes by showcasing the capabilities and empowerment of individuals with disabilities. Employers, this month presents an amazing opportunity to engage with employees who have both visible and non-visible disabilities. Here are some key considerations: ✅ Educate the team about Ableism, which is the discrimination against folx with disabilities. Ableism is rooted in the assumption that disabled people require “fixing” and defines people by their disability. ✅️ Implement a disability employment policy focused on inclusion practices. ✅ Review your website to ensure job applications are accessible and inclusive. ✅ Explore new networks that connect with job seekers with disabilities. ✅ Emphasize respect within your company to make everyone feel valued. Let's celebrate Disability Pride Month by building awareness, promoting inclusion and supporting the rights of people with disabilities. #DisabilityPrideMonth💚 #InclusionMatters💙 #CelebrateDiversity🤍 #ADA💛 #DisabilityRights❤ #AccessibleSpaces🖤 #O2TN1👣

July is Disability Pride Month 🥳, a time dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness about the experiences of people with disabilities. It's crucial to acknowledge that many are unaware of this significant month, highlighting the importance of increasing visibility and understanding in the coming years to strive for equality. As someone who grew up with a disability, I understand the struggles and self-doubt that can accompany such experiences. Feeling isolated and hoping for a change, I longed for representation and connection with others who shared similar stories. The power of media visibility during Disability Pride Month cannot be underestimated in fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance. While disability awareness should be a year-round effort, designating July for this cause allows for a broader platform to advocate for equality. The journey towards equal access to transportation, employment opportunities, healthcare, assistive technology, and more is ongoing. By advocating for these rights and sharing our stories, we pave the way for a more inclusive future for all. Let’s continue to raise awareness and promote acceptance this Disability Pride Month. Together, we can work towards a more equitable society, ensuring that future generations have access to the support and services they deserve. #disabilitypridemonth #awareness #humanrights #equality

We couldn't let July end without acknowledging Disability Pride Month. This month, we honor the history and diversity of experiences in the disability community. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), was signed into law on July 26, 1990, and marks the ADA’s 33-year anniversary. While there is much to celebrate, there is much to do to ensure that the macro- and micro-obstacles can be torn down to mitigate the pervasive occupational segregation, part-time restrictions, and direct discrimination that marginalizes the intersectional disabled community. We encourage you all to watch PBS's selection of documentaries on Disability Pride Month and the Disability Rights Movement here: https://lnkd.in/gEwC6mSn We also encourage you to read the Center for American Progresses's article on how “Removing Obstacles for Disabled Workers Would Strengthen the U.S. Labor Market” here: https://lnkd.in/dKAp-dAc
