Do you have a friend who is an HR? Many? Or do you “think” you have? One way to find out, is that if you are looking for a job, send your CV to a job at the company he/she works for. A job you think would be appropriate given your qualifications and experience. And then you wait. If you got nothing: no emails, whatsapp, or even text, you’ve got an acquaintance at best. If you got a text message about the role, and a brief explanation on how you are right/not right for the job and tell you how the recruitment process would go. You’ve got a friend. If you got a text message asking how you are, get to know how your situation is and look for ways to help you out, whether in his/her company or other places they know with a referral, then you got a truly dear friend. Surely HR’s don’t call the shots on many hiring decisions, and they can only do so much. Yet they can have their ways of showing you how they care, and help you get through the door with valuable advice. Wanna try? Just don’t be sad at the outcome. An #open letter from a #Recruiter - 👉𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐑 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐢 (in fact, my art is really poor 🤦) 👉𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐇𝐑 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 (a recruiter's job is different from an HRBP / People partner / L&D etc.) So we are not a Help-desk for every HR related queries. 👉𝐘𝐞𝐬, 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐑 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 but, we don’t keep on hiring an entire year due to business demand , hence we try to keep ourselves occupied in some other stuff like process improvement, 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 - 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐮𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐊𝐑𝐀 😆 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭) 👉𝐖𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 and not the details that you have filled while submitting the application, but 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐓𝐒 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. 👉𝐖𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 – it could be because the 𝘏𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯; 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 , hundreds of candidates in pipeline, working till stretched hours and sharing feedback may not be priority over burning issues like filling the open role ASAP, odd hour calls or handling any escalation. 👉𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐛- Hiring teams are huge and 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 ( & who's working on which skill) to refer your profile to the right POC. 👉𝐖𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 but the internal team parity, company /market condition & your interview feedback impacts the offered compensation 👉𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐭 for the role as comparing to an internal/referral candidate and we try to influence our stakeholders but we can’t help as Business /HM / Interviewers have their own #preferences for a particular candidate . 👉𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 -We have to sell our employer to a prospective candidate , and also sell a candidate to the hiring manager.
