Today, on Juneteenth, we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved Black people in the United States. It's a day to reflect on the struggles for freedom and equality, and recommit ourselves to building a more inclusive workplace. We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential for a thriving workplace. We're committed to helping our clients create cultures that value all employees and foster belonging. Here are some things HR departments can do to celebrate Juneteenth and build a more equitable workplace: 📚Educate your employees: Hold educational workshops or seminars on Juneteenth's history and significance. 📖Review your policies: Ensure your policies are inclusive and free from bias. 🌈Diversify your recruiting: Actively seek out and recruit talent from diverse backgrounds. 🤝Create Employee Resource Groups (ERGs): Provide a space for employees from different backgrounds to connect and support each other. We encourage all businesses to take action to create a more just and equitable workplace. #Juneteenth #DiversityEquityInclusion #HR #WorkplaceCulture

Let’s stop describing people as “Human Resources”, suggesting they are the equivalent of stock and lacking dimensionality - a line item in a company’s P&L statement. Let’s embrace Human Value recognising all of what people bring, much of which will never be quantifiable and, in fact, doesn’t need to be. Our characteristics and backgrounds are not our prisons, so let’s stop creating checklists and tick boxes to understand incredibly complex and multifaceted people, all of whom bring unique skills and values to the table. We are more than the sum of our parts. #equity #diversity #inclusion #humanvalue

Very exciting news and great to see recognition for the work the organization continues committing to and prioritizing. At Liberty Mutual, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) aren’t just buzzwords—they’re the heart of how we do business. That’s why we’re honored to be named a 2024 Best Employer for Diversity by Forbes and a Top 50 Employer by Equal Opportunity Magazine—meaningful recognitions that affirm our commitment to fostering a workplace where employees of all backgrounds can thrive. Following on from Inclusion at Work Week last week, I love the practical suggestions provided by the author, Lore Perkins, in this article outlining the actions colleagues took to make them feel safe to bring their whole self to work and ultimately foster an inclusive environment. Such actions included: 1️⃣ Creating a forum for open and honest dialogue, enabling employees to talk about various topics in a supportive space with the backing of senior leaders. 2️⃣ Demonstrating practical allyship, receiving endorsement from direct supervisors to use correct pronouns and educating others about inclusive language practices. 3️⃣ Listening attentively instead of making assumptions, recognizing the uniqueness of each individual's needs. A timely reminder that inclusivity is about acknowledging that every person brings value, diverse perspectives, and expertise to the team, irrespective of their gender identity.
