What is rewarding to you? What makes you smile and say to your kids "I designed that!" For me, it is tricky infrastructure, buried away, or complex services making everything tick over just so, *but with a story*. A story of specific engineered design, where both nz and international codes don't fit, or where the ground is too steep (60deg slope for this one), or where the ground is too unstable, or complex shared trenches with every service imaginable are combined into one zone. This was one of those get out of bed and enjoy working late projects for me. Part of who I am as an engineer is rewriting my story. Growing and learning. A story started in energy modelling, mechanical design, sustainable engineering, Hydraulics, civil infrastructure, onsite wastewater management systems, resource consenting and team leading. A story yet to reach the final chapter, and yet to be complete. How are you writing your story? And is your story going how you want it to? I'd love to hear about your #story TM Consultants Ltd #engineering #civilengineering

Hello LinkedIn community! Last week I started a 2-part series, where I outlined the 1st 3 out of 7 of what I termed the most critical Utilities-Influenced subjects in the Civil Engineering Industry based on my experience, and this week, I would be addressing the remainder 4 essential subjects and they’re as follows: 4. #InnovationsandBestPractices: What are the latest innovations in #Utilitydetectionandcoordination? Are there emerging technologies that could improve Utilities engagement in civil engineering projects? What best practices should be adopted to streamline #Utilitiesengagement processes? 5. #CollaborationandCommunication: How can civil engineers effectively communicate with Utility companies and other stakeholders? What collaborative tools and platforms are available to facilitate communication and coordination? How can conflicts and disputes related to Utilities be resolved through effective communication channels? 6. #SustainabilityandEnvironmentalConsiderations: How can Utilities engagement practices be aligned with sustainability goals and environmental regulations? What measures can be implemented to minimize the environmental impact of Utility installation and maintenance? Are there opportunities for renewable energy integration or other environmentally friendly Utility solutions? 7. #TrainingandEducation: What training programs are available to enhance the skills and knowledge of civil engineers in Utilities engagement? How can universities and professional organizations contribute to educating future professionals in this field? Are there certification programs or continuing education courses focused on Utilities engagement? Fine, so as I end this 2-part series, please remember that the specific concerns and priorities may vary depending on the nature of projects, regulatory requirements, technological advancements, and other factors. Thank you for joining me. Next week, I’ll take deep dives into each of the subjects.
