Protect Black Women who have entered the entrepreneurship space largely underfunded and overlooked. Protect the industry from efforts like this lawsuit that ultimately prevent the incubation of new and untapped markets. Some of our favorite innovative products would not exist outside of the valuable contributions from VCs of color and communities of color. There is outsized economic potential for startups that receive the capital and resources they need to survive. Let's dismantle this poor argument for what it is and in the process educate new investors to lean in, make more deals and build up the community.
A group founded by the conservative activist instrumental in the U.S. Supreme Court's June decision rejecting affirmative action in collegiate admissions sued Atlanta-based venture capital fund, Fearless Fund, accusing it of unlawful racial discrimination. Fearless Fund supports Black and Brown women who own small businesses with pre-seed, seed level and series A funding and business education. According to an August 2nd article by Reuters, the nonprofit American Alliance for Equal Rights, founded by affirmative action foe Edward Blum, said in its lawsuit that Fearless Fund is violating Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, a U.S. law barring racial bias in private contracts, by making only Black women eligible in a grant competition. The suit was recently filed last Wednesday in federal court in Atlanta. Fearless Fund was founded by Arian Simone, actress Keisha Knight Pulliam, and Ayana Parsons to invest in women of color founders building scalable and growth-aggressive companies. A number of the VC's investments are in the multicultural beauty space, supporting brands like The Lip Bar Inc., thirteen lune, Bread Beauty Supply, BROWN GIRL Jane, Live Tinted, Range Beauty, and others. Fearless Fund recently announced their VC Summit, 8/18-19, in Atlanta, and that they received multimillion-dollar follow-on investments from Bank of America, Costco Wholesale and Mastercard. MCBI has previously reported that in the U.S. Black entrepreneurs receive less than 2% of all venture capital dollars each year, with only 0.2% of business funding going to Black Women. #beautybusiness #beautyindustry #beautytrends #entrepreneurs #entrepreneurlife #blackentrepreneurs #beautynews #beautybrands #beautymarketing #fearlessfund #venturecapital #vcfunding #vc #multiculturalmarketing #bipoc #blackwomen #blackwomenlead #latinasinbeauty #poc #mcbi #multiculturalbeautyinsider

What an incredible night of powerhouse women for our PEWIN - Private Equity Women Investor Network Houston chapter dinner. Haley Vyrostek and Eriell Delgado were incredible partners for the event, planning and helping with every detail. We even got to celebrate Tamika Tyson's birthday! We brought together some of the most senior women LPs and GPs for an intimate discussion where we covered everything from: - What makes someone a good investor? (Intellectual curiosity, listening/asking questions and not letting the outcomes of decision color if the decision was good or bad) -Using founder personality assessment tools. (Potentially a roadblock if used improperly and only in screening but could be powerful to know about team blind spots) - What everyone was excited about in 2024? (More deals happening, deeper relationships, general macro uncertainly going one way or another) Thank you Stephanie Campbell, Sandy Guitar, Samantha Lewis, Brett Ashley Barth, Mallory Gibson Baker, Faridah Usman, CFA, CAIA, Rushana Cypert, Jennifer (Jenny) Gottschalk, Kathleen M. Burke, Veronica Wu for making it such a vibrant discussion!

When the Nashville Business Journal asked BC Holdings of TN co-founder Saundra Curry, MBA what they should have asked in her Women of Influence Q&A interview but didn't, she nailed her response: "As financial educators, what would we tell consumers and business owners?” Consumers: You can’t plan the future in the future, start yesterday. Business owners: Treat every check like it is your last; it just might be. 🤯 Read more in the latest issue of the Nashville Business Journal in print or online. #WomenOfInfluence #WomenInLeadership #SaundraCurry #BCHoldingsTN

Congresswoman Nikema Williams (D-GA) has introduced the Minority Entrepreneurship Grant Program Act, aiming to create a federal grant for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to support Black-owned businesses. The proposed program, housed within the Small Business Administration, would offer grants to students seeking to start businesses, with HBCUs and other minority student institutions eligible to apply. Each grant could reach up to $250,000. The bipartisan legislation has gained support from Democratic co-sponsors Alma Adams (NC), Dwight Evans (PA), and Norma Torres (CA), along with Republican co-sponsor Brian Fitzpatrick (PA). Fitzpatrick expressed belief in the bipartisan nature of the proposal, emphasizing its potential to empower minority innovators and entrepreneurs. However, the initiative may face challenges, both politically and legally. Some Republicans may be reluctant to support the program, and the legal landscape around government-funded initiatives benefiting racial minorities has become more contentious. Recent legal rulings have challenged programs such as the Fearless Fund, which provided venture capital for minority women, and the Small Business Administration Business Development Program for minority business owners. Despite potential obstacles, Congresswoman Williams remains determined to address the pressing need for access to capital for Black and brown businesses. While the proposal may face opposition, Williams is committed to serving her constituents and supporting minority entrepreneurs. 🌐 #HBCU #Business #Entrepreneurship #GovernmentGrant https://lnkd.in/gkFp35nC

I help entrepreneurial CEOs build a values-driven team to scale their brand | Founder, Master Brand Institute | Brand Futurist | Business Strategist | Keynote Speaker | Serial Investor | Top Media Contributor
You may have been hearing from me about the new private equity club I discreetly opened last month, but I think you might not understand how different, ground-breaking and next-fucking-level this is, so here’s a quick summary: 🌟You receive equity ownership in the club, and it’s limited to only the first 100 women who get their stake secured. Translation: instead of paying for a membership, you get all of the benefits inside of it, and own a piece of the virtual real estate too 🤩 🌟You get to access my 400K email leads, and if your ideal customer is entrepreneurial in any way, this is the goldmine you’ve wanted without paying for leads through a cold source like Facebook or Instagram ads. I’ve never let anyone mail to my list, and by doing it in this way, I am creating an ethical way for us to both win. 🌟I am partnering with you to create deal flow and introductions to powerful people who can not just open doors, but give you access to bigger opportunities you’ve ever imagined. This is what men do on the golf course, so I decided we’d just build our own. If you want to make friends who actually have your back in addition to everything else, grab your spot here. Basically with those 3 benefits alone, you’d be crazy not to invest in yourself by joining. But look, there’s no pressure. Maybe you just need a little more info. So, I’m hosting a live Ask-Me-Anything where I’ll go over why the club is better than anything else out there, and why being a part of it makes a lot of sense. It’s on July 11 - you can RSVP in the link in my bio. This isn’t a sales pitch or fake scarcity play. We’re capping the first cohort at 100 so I can really invest in the women who are with us. If you ever wished that you were part of something big in the early stages, this is the one to consider. Some of you need to understand why there’s urgency to join at all. Well, it’s because we’re at 80% capacity which means we have less than a couple dozen spots left. Register through this link: https://lnkd.in/gazVeVJt #equity #leadership #womeninbusiness
