On this Juneteenth, we pause to reflect. June 19th commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Union soldiers arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas on this day in 1865 to announce to the more than 250,000 people still enslaved there that they had been freed two years before. This pivotal moment represents hope, perseverance, and the resilience of the human spirit. Yet, even now, the journey to true equality continues. As individuals and as a company, we have more work to do. At WTE Solutions, we don't claim to have all the answers. But we vow to keep learning, listening, and taking action. To have uncomfortable conversations. To check our blind spots and unconscious biases. To create an environment of belonging for all. The path ahead won't be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is. We will stumble at times, but resolve to get back up, for the fight against injustice is a marathon, not a sprint. On this Juneteenth, we celebrate how far we've come. But more importantly, we re-commit to the road ahead - striving for a more equitable world, in our minds, policies, and practices. The work continues. But we embrace the journey, together. #Juneteenth #EqualityForAll #SystemicRacism #DEI #KeepGrowing

Today I attended the first day of the National Association of Black Social Workers (NASBW) conference. Not only am I excited to attend for the first time—Dr. Sapphire Boone has graciously invited me to co-present on a topic close to my heart: "Reimagining Competence and Exploring Alternative Pathways to Licensure through Policy Advocacy." This presentation is not just a speaking opportunity for me; it's a chance to shine a light on the crucial work done in support of SB871, alongside dedicated advocates. It's a narrative about channeling my rage into productive advocacy, inspired by the trailblazers of the #STOPASWB movement. The National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) has historically been a vocal critic of the current licensure process, yet, all too often, their voices are excluded from policy discussions. This presentation is my homage to those pioneers, a reminder to everyone in attendance—and to the broader Social Work Field—that the voices of black social workers are indispensable, especially in legislative arenas. To say I'm honored is an understatement. This is a moment of humility and pride—a chance to remind us all that standing on the shoulders of giants gives us the vantage point not just to see further, but to speak louder and more effectively. As I prepare for my presentation tomorrow, I am reminded of the power of advocacy, the importance of inclusive dialogue, and the enduring strength of a community united for change. Here's to making every moment count! #NASBW56 #SocialWork #PolicyAdvocacy #ABSW #SocialWorkLicensure #CommunityChange

Whether you are a public servant or not, this is a great month to celebrate, learn, and be an ally. What allyship looks like: -apologizing for not using someone's pronouns, and commiting to do better next time -sharing resources and events un support of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community -speaking up to correct homophobic and transphobic rhetoric, not matter who it comes from -creating safe spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ -take initiative to learn -unlearn unconscious biases Other ideas? Share below!
Happy Public Service Pride Week! This is a time to celebrate the diversity and hard-fought victories of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities within the public service. It’s also an opportunity to recognize public servants with intersecting experiences, including members of the Indigenous, Black, and racialized communities, as well as people with disabilities. Over the past five years, Public Service Pride Week has grown into a symbol of unity, inclusion, and progress. It is more than just a celebration; it’s a testament to our unity in serving all Canadians. It’s a time when we proudly showcase the diverse tapestry of individuals who form the backbone of our nation’s public service. Each one of us, as public servants, plays an important role in creating a more inclusive workplace. We must continue to champion diversity, challenge biases, and foster an environment where everyone feels safe and empowered to be their authentic selves. – Clerk Hannaford and Deputy Clerk Drouin

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth – a day of reflection, education, and celebration. But it's also a day to acknowledge the ongoing struggle for equality. Did you know? Among the 33.1 million small businesses in the country, only 13.2% (3.7 million) are Black-owned. Even more concerning, only a tiny fraction (roughly 161,000) of these Black-owned businesses have more than one employee and generate significant revenue. At Kingdom Bonding, these statistics fuel our mission. We're dedicated to raising these numbers and empowering Black-owned businesses in the construction industry. The journey continues, and we won't stop until we make a real impact. Click here to see the stats👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/eXNjm6bx

"California is seeing a recent surge in labor movements. Our friends on the California Report have called this a Hot Labor Summer. And it's happening not just in Hollywood, but across all industries, including health care, higher education, and hospitality. That got us thinking about a chapter in the history of the Black labor rights movement in Oakland and how it's connected to the city's 16th Street train station." 🔗 To listen to the full audio, tap the link below. ⬇️ #AlamedaCounty #ContraCostaCounty #EBCF #Equity #RacialJustice #SocialJustice #LaborRights #WorkersRights

On June 19, we commemorate the day in 1865 when enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were notified of their freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. At ILAB, #Juneteenth serves as a powerful reminder of our mission to combat child labor, forced labor and human trafficking worldwide. Freedom, justice and equality—central principles of Juneteenth—also fuel ILAB’s work. - Freedom: We are committed to eradicating child and forced labor and ensuring safe and dignified conditions at work. - Justice: We strive to support worker’s rights and hold those who abuse workers’ rights accountable. - Equality: We are dedicated to creating fair labor practices and promoting worker voice for all.

On this Juneteenth, Ōmcare takes a moment to reflect on the profound significance of this day in American history. The day when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War had ended and enslaved people were now free...two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. As we commemorate this moment in American history, we must also confront the harsh reality that the legacy of slavery and systemic racism persists in our society today. The fight for true equality, justice, and freedom remains an ongoing struggle. At Ōmcare, we firmly believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just buzzwords – they are core values that we must actively embody and champion each and every day. We are committed to creating a workplace culture where every employee, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background, feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their whole selves to work. But we recognize that this commitment must extend beyond the confines of our organization. We have a responsibility to be advocates for change in our communities and in society at large. We invite all of our employees, partners, and customers to join us in reflecting on the significance of Juneteenth, engaging in honest and courageous conversations about race and justice, and taking meaningful steps to create a more equitable world.

✊🏿🧡 CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH: Thank you to the Black Culture Collective at Orange County Social Services Agency for having The OCEA Hot Dog Wagon at their Juneteenth Celebration Wednesday, June 19! SSA’s Black Culture Collective consists of about 60 members, and is a revamp of the former African American Roundtable, which was established at SSA in the 90’s. The group assembled the lunch to celebrate Juneteenth—a recognition of June 19, 1865—when news of freedom reached enslaved people in Texas, marking a pivotal moment in American history. Juneteenth celebrates liberation, resilience, and the ongoing fight for equality. “It was a great turnout. We had people coming from different locations—from Garden Grove, OCPC, Santa Ana—not just Eckhoff,” said Rebecca Polee, a Staff Specialist in Children & Family Services at SSA, and a member of the Black Culture Collective. “We sometimes get so involved and invested in the work and the service that we do. It’s nice to have this downtime, to engage, socialize, and bring some history.” Juneteenth became a federally-recognized holiday in 2021, and subsequently a State holiday. The recognition of Juneteenth as a holiday was prioritized by our membership and included in our proposal to the County during negotiations in 2023. The County initially refused, later offering Juneteenth if another holiday or 20 hours from PIP were forfeited. The negotiations team opposed these concessions and suggested alternative solutions, which the County rejected. Negotiations continued, highlighting that every gain requires trade-offs. If establishing Juneteenth as a holiday is of interest to you, please say so when the next negotiations survey comes your way prior to us returning to the table in 2026. 3wJuneteenth Day in commemorating the freedom of enslaved African Americans and advocating for the democratic rights of individuals worldwide. It is disheartening to note that according to the Global Slavery Index 2023, approximately 50 million people are still living in slavery around the world. This highlights the urgent need to address this issue and promote values that uphold democratic rights. It is evident that countries with high rates of slavery often lack democratic principles. Upholding the rights of individuals is crucial in building a more equitable society for all. As employee of Pacer Staffing, I continue to stand in support of these values and work towards a world where freedom and democratic rights.
