More support for emerging sports is the way to go.
You might've heard of a friend who's played tchoukball in school, or seen seniors in the neighbourhood playing pickleball. But do you know that Singapore has national teams in these sports, and that our athletes actually fare quite well on the international stage? Singapore's tchoukball women's and men's teams are ranked first and third in the world respectively, while our newly-formed pickleball national team picked up a bronze in the 35+ category at the recent Asian Pickleball Games in October. But despite their successes, challenges remain in getting access to resources like funding and training venues, as well as recognition as a high-performance sport. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/d8BAzA_B Many thanks to the Singapore Pickleball Association and A/P LIM ZI XUAN DELANE from the Tchoukball Association of Singapore for sharing their stories with me! (P.S.: I tried my hand at pickleball and it is really not as easy as it looks so hats off to our national players!)

Promoting social development through sports | MA International Sport Development and Politics at GSU | Young Sport Innovator at EPSI
🌍𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚'𝐬 𝐅𝟏 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐟🏁 As a passionate sports enthusiast, I've been captivated by the recent surge in Formula 1 interest across Africa. The continent's vibrant fanbase is calling for a race on African soil, and I believe this could be a game-changer for sports development in the region. Kenyan influencer Joy Jeptoo exemplifies this passion, hosting lively F1 viewing parties in Nairobi and traveling far and wide to witness the races. Her dedication mirrors the enthusiasm seen in football fans, showcasing how deep the love for F1 runs here. Despite the Middle East hosting multiple races annually, Africa remains the only continent without a Grand Prix. This hasn’t dampened the spirits of fans like those in Kenya’s Paddock Experience community, who gather in large numbers to celebrate their favourite sport. The "Netflix effect" of Drive to Survive has played a role in boosting F1’s popularity, bringing the sport’s drama to a broader audience. With live race streaming becoming more accessible, fans across Africa can now follow their favourite drivers more easily than ever. Female fans are also making their mark in this traditionally male-dominated sport. Baaba Jenkins and Queendela Adu-Poku’s podcast, Hairpins and Straights, is a testament to the growing diversity and inclusivity within the F1 community (join them on the lessons, listen today on Afripods bit.ly/446RALm). Bringing F1 to Africa would not only fulfil the dreams of countless fans but also drive significant economic and social development. Historical circuits like South Africa's Kyalami are ready and waiting to make this a reality. Let’s support this movement and amplify the voices of African F1 fans.
