Happy Pride Month! 🌈 To celebrate, we organized an LGBTQIA+ mini-games virtual event for all US team members. Points earned during the event provided meals to unhoused LGBTQIA+ youth. At our HQ office, our MOSAiC (Multicultural Organization Supporting an Inclusive Culture) ERG hosted a Pride social with delicious Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. We’re proud to partner with a company that has a long history of supporting the LGBTQIA+ community in the fight for justice. June has come back around, and brands are *still* rainbow washing 🥱 Here are 5 meaningful things you can do this #PrideMonth, rather than change your logo to a rainbow 👇 1️⃣ Contribute to organizations directly supporting the LGBTQIA+ community (in the form of both time and money) 2️⃣ Ensure your internal policies and practices are inclusive to your existing and future workforce 3️⃣ Run DE&I training for your team to create a more inclusive working environment (hit up Laura Clarke if you want to make this happen!) 4️⃣ Partner on initiatives and campaigns with LGBTQIA+ creators — and please don’t expect them to work for free! (Ash has published some lovely content around this) 5️⃣ Engage with the LGBTQIA+ community to understand their perspectives, challenges and needs Brands often mean well, but meaninglessly posting about Pride Month can often create a false sense of allyship. Rainbows are more than welcomed…as long as the brand puts their money where their mouth is. If you really want to impact the equity, acceptance and inclusivity of the LGBT+ community, please positively commit to to these activities year-round. Ongoing support is much more meaningful, and helps create positive change for future generations! If you *are* going to post about #PrideMonth, ensure LGBTQIA+ voices are involved in the creation and approval of any content or campaigns you have going out. #ALLY: One that is associated with another as a helper: a person or group that provides assistance and support in an ongoing effort, activity, or struggle. Being an #ally of the LGQBT+ community means actively supporting and advocating for the rights and well-being of everyone in that community. To be an effective ally, we should work to educate ourselves on the diverse identities within the community, the history of LGBTQ+ rights movements, and the ongoing issues they face. If I'm honest, this is an ongoing effort for me. Not just within the LGBTQ+ community, but understanding the history, diversities, and ongoing issues of those of different races, origins, religions, and abilities. I am working every day to become a better ally, and proud to work for a company that is doing the same. Taking actionable steps is vital in demonstrating genuine allyship. Here are some practical ways from my friends at TriPride TN to support the LGBTQ+ community: ➡ Educate Yourself: Continuously seek knowledge about LGBTQ+ issues, terminology, and experiences. Read books, attend workshops, and engage with credible resources to deepen your understanding. ➡ Listen and Amplify Voices: Actively listen to the experiences and stories shared by LGBTQ+ individuals. Amplify their voices by sharing their narratives, achievements, and struggles. Centering their experiences helps create space for authentic representation. ➡ Stand Up Against Discrimination: Speak out against homophobia, transphobia, and any form of discrimination. Challenge stereotypes and biases, and be a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in your personal and professional life. ➡ Use Inclusive Language: Be mindful of the language you use. Respect and use individuals’ chosen pronouns and gender identities. Avoid assumptions or making insensitive jokes or comments that may perpetuate harmful stereotypes. ➡ Support LGBTQ+ Organizations: Contribute to and volunteer with local LGBTQ+ organizations that provide support, resources, and advocacy for the community. Your involvement helps amplify their impact. ➡ Foster Safe Spaces: Create and promote safe and inclusive environments where LGBTQ+ individuals feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment or discrimination.
