This article is from 2020, thanks Ryan Martin PT DPT RMSK for helping to draw awareness. If one wants to consider themselves a gatekeeper to MSK conditions as a PT, one should utilize what MSK Ultrasound can do to help you become more effective and efficient in caring for patients. As an aside, and most importantly, I am of the opinion that PT's should also learn how to integrate and shoulder the responsibility of what to do with the findings. When performing diagnostics, there is a duty one must bear of knowing what to do with findings that either falls outside of the scope of a PT OR could be augmented by the care by a medical colleague (cough-cough "orthobiologics" or otherwise) as well as understanding WHEN an additional imaging study should be incorporated. It's great that more therapists are learning this skill and taking the exam; however, in my observations in the field there is a gap in the PT profession as a whole of understanding how to best incorporate the findings into a multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary care model.
