You have got to open up that hood, because you're being sold these services from a used car salesman You know the tactics, big promises, redirection to the features, low prices, fast turn around..... it all sounds too good and you're hooked. You drive off the lot, no guarantees, and just drive right onto the mechanics lot and save the time But if you did your vetting properly, you'd open the hood, pull the dipstick, open the radiator, lay on the ground and look it over, you'd inspect every possible corner Contractors are pulling the same tricks. They know how to talk the talk and distract. And you're walking away with the impression that you're in good hands, but you sign that contract and it goes all wrong and you're stranded on the side of the road in Texas in the summertime So what do you do? Demand to talk to their engineers. Present the problem. Do they talk only about what you show them or do they expand the scope and ask about the rest of the parts and if there's a solution there? Walk them through the issues, are they jumping ahead and asking you if this is a problem? Are they demonstrating that they understand the depth of the problem? Are they giving generic or specific solutions or directions? There are clear differences, and they sound the same because the used car salesman knows how to play you. The engineer knows how to solve the problem. Choose wisely.

“It’s just an intake?!” - the response I imagine when a claim is declined by a customer who was never really properly sold a contract, and didn’t understand their contract. In the extended warranty world, customers assume a lot of things, don’t read what they sign, and aren’t educated properly on what they’re buying, and do seemingly innocent things that get their repairs declined. I always feel for them, when I see a seemingly innocent, and common way for someone to enjoy their vehicle performed knowing they likely have a contract that forbids modification. Often I see consumers with a protection plan that is null and void once a vehicle is modified in any way, who’ve modified their vehicle, it makes me wonder if, as an industry we can do better educating customers, and automotive enthusiasts. I’m pretty sure clients wouldn’t add 10 horspower if they weren’t going to have their A/C or suspension concerns covered, but at the same time, you’ve got to be reading the contract you’re buying. But it does beg the question, are the F&I, and sales reps really taking the time to engage their customer? Or are they just trying to get that quick spiff for another contract. It’s an important question as an industry we must constantly ask ourselves. I have no clue if this was approved or declined, I just write a report of what I see, but it is my job to check that box for “modifications” and I know how that story often ends, because I’m the guy that uneducated service writers yell at for ‘denying their claim’, when in reality they should be upset at their sales department for not educating their customer on the product they sold them. I understand yelling and cursing me is easier though. 😂😂😂 What do you think? #themoreyouknow #automotiveaftermarket #automotivewarranty #warranty #warrantymanagement #dealership #extendedwarranty #claimsmanagement #inspection #contracts

The yellow line warranty! Way back in the day, when I returned from Italy, I worked in a garage with a wiley old guy, who used to say ''things aren't what they used to be'' He told me about the yellow line warranty that his cars used to come with. Namely once they drove over the yellow lines outside the garage that was the end of the warranty! Thank heavens those days are over! Sales is a profession & only happy customers prove that your sales process is good! Another example of those days was an American sales system that would encourage you to take the car keys off the customer(so they couldn't drive off) to close them in a window less room to make them feel the heat & a notepad to remind you BMWW - if the wife wasn't present to utter the phrase 'Brave Man to Buy a car Without your Wife!' Thankfully these tactics are gone - only had short term success & we have evolved as a society. My favourite motto nowadays is an educated client is a great client! The more you educate your client on how you work the better they will be. Do you have any of your own car stories?

Repairman vs. Car Salesmen... What can we learn from them? The Car Salesmen: On Saturday, I checked out a car for my sister to help her decide whether or not she should buy it. Whenever I had a concern, the salesmen brushed it off with comments such as, "That’s normal for a car this age." I never felt understood or listened to. The Heat Pump Repairman: A couple of weeks ago, we were having problems with the heat pump for our house. The repairman seemed like he cared. When we described our problem, he explained how he wasn't comfortable taking on such a task. He offered to look at it anyway and refer us to someone else. The difference? The car salesman wanted his check. The repairman was relaxed, knowing there's always more fish in the sea. If someone I know has a repair problem, guess who I'm referring to? Have you ever had a bad/good sales experience? #sales #freelance #b2bsales
