Our BDR team recently gathered in Chicago for some training and took time out to give back to the community. They packaged backpacks for Care For Friends, supporting those in need. We're proud of them for setting aside time to make a difference!

Let me tell you, library programs are crucial for the growth of a community. They not only provide access to a wealth of knowledge but also offer a space for people to come together and learn from one another. Whether it's a children's reading program, an adult literacy class, or a workshop on financial literacy, these programs help bridge the gap between different members of the community. They promote education, creativity, and a sense of togetherness. I've seen firsthand how a well-organized library program can breathe new life into a neighborhood by fostering a love for learning and a sense of community pride. I believe that investing in library programs is investing in the future of our society.

It's the final week in our #SDSBoost month 🚀, helping to boost everyone's understanding of the 4 Self Directed Support options. Anyone who needs social care or community support can choose from 4 options to arrange it. The last option lets people mix and match For example - use option 1 to choose and arrange the support which helps you get out and about, but then use option 2 to tell the council to pay and arrange your care at home help. If you'd like to learn more about how you can use different options to arrange your social care support, you can chat to the team at SDS Forth Valley - they're an independent support service offering free information and guidance. (Visit sdsforthvalley.org) To learn more about Self Directed Support, and the 4 options, visit our newly updated webpage: https://lnkd.in/ecyc3q7f

Guess what? School's kicking back into gear this Thursday! Now, I know we're all pretty excited about the kids getting back to the learning grind, but here's the scoop: our roads are gonna get a bit busier during drop-off and pick-up times. You know how it is – cars zipping around, kiddos hopping out of cars, school buses making their stops. So, here's the friendly nudge: please, let's all keep our eyes peeled and our speeds in check in those school zones. You know those signs that say 25 MPH? Yep, that's the one. Let's show some extra patience and understanding during these times. A little bit of extra time getting the kiddos to school or waiting in the pick-up line can make all the difference in keeping everyone safe. Yukon is an awesome community, and looking out for each other is what we do best. Stay awesome, stay safe, and let's kick off the school year on the right foot!

By organizing programs by condition group we begin to foster community for our campers and their families. Campers build independence, can share and ask questions about common experiences, and make friends with kids who are just like them. Here's a look at the impact of intentional programming: https://bit.ly/3D8YswE

Our monthly meeting of the Alignment Rockford Operating Board, as always, reinforced the simple concept: It takes a village to raise a child. In Rockford, our village is: ✅ leveraging population based data from the Early Development Instrument and Middle Years Development Instrument to align community resources to the needs of families at the neighborhood level and examine the needs of families post-COVID by asking them directly ✅ exploring how we welcome babies into our community through universal newborn supports and Basics Illinois kits ✅ providing resources for families to play and read together in spaces like community centers and laundromats ✅ helping families of young children create support networks and access the Discovery Center, a community gem ✅ wrapping community supports around 8 pilot schools to address acute local needs . . . and so much more. I'm looking forward to sharing more of this critical work with you. Why? Because the most important question we can ask as a school system and as a community is this: How are the children? And that answer to that question should drive our collective purpose. When the children are well, the community is well.
