Did we learrn nothing from Beeching? Short term cost savings at the expense of long term gains. On the one hand we are committed to reducing our carbon emissions, where rail transport offers 76% reduction over road transport before we start to decarbonize rail travel. The construction of a new high speed railway was never about speed alone, it was about capacity, connectivity and attracting investment. The strategy is working in the areas of the country where the project has not been abandoned. Below is a look at an alternate future where the East Midlands Hub was not abandoned and urban development is integrated into the scheme, much in a similar manner to Old Oak Common. Increased Connectivity, High Speed Logistics, who knows what the full benefits would be?

Parliament has been dissolved until after the General Election and I am no longer an MP. Promoted by Bethan Davies on behalf of Virginia Crosbie, c/o PO Box 85, Holyhead LL77 9BZ
𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗬𝗻𝘆𝘀 𝗠ô𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 Holyhead is the second busiest roll on, roll off port in the UK and with our new Porthladd rhydd Ynys Môn Anglesey Freeport we are at the start of our island's economic renaissance - so rail connectivity is vital especially now the Labour government in Cardiff will not agree to a third Menai crossing. There has been improvement from Avanti West Coast over recent months. In January 13% of trains were cancelled and this has dropped to 3% now. I am not entirely convinced the company should be given a long-term contract but I am prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt. However, it comes with a condition: this recent improvement must continue and Avanti must restore the pre-covid timetable for North Wales with direct trains to Euston. My Ynys Môn constituents can be assured: I will be keeping a close eye on Avanti’s performance and I will not hesitate to call out any problems on behalf of passengers. As a semi-frequent Gold Coast to Brisbane commuter, I often contemplate the potential benefits of a high-speed PT service/bullet train. Currently, the 1.5-hour trip provides me with an opportunity to reflect, plan, and catch up on emails. However, I've noticed that I often find the return journey to the coast after work feels longer, just wanting to get home to family. But what if we could cut this travel time in half? Reducing passenger transport travel times isn't just about convenience, but about unlocking potential. It is interesting to consider the potential mode shift, productivity gains, increased connectivity between our cities, and the economic opportunities that a high speed rail system could bring - although I appreciate the significant costs involved. AECOM has published a first-of-its-kind research report on the future of high-speed rail (HSR) delivery. From Vision to Reality: a new high-speed rail playbook presents original quantitative and qualitative research conducted with 112 senior decision-makers involved in HSR projects globally. Informed by AECOM’s 30+ years expertise in HSR design and delivery, the report investigates the latest industry trends and outlines best practices for future success. The report takes a global and region-specific approach to a spectrum of key HSR topics, including passenger experience, economic and social benefits, emissions reductions, regulatory and political factors, land use and funding concerns. Data is presented over immediate and five-to-ten-year timeframes and is supported by interviews from leaders across major HSR organizations, including Adif, High Speed 1, Brightline, the California High-Speed Rail Authority, NEOM, and China Railway Construction Company International (CRCCI). If you're a fellow commuter, or PT user, comment and share your thoughts... With the resurgent ascent of air travel post-pandemic, airport projects are soaring to new heights. Fueled by a significant financial boost from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, these initiatives are set to receive a whopping $15 billion over five years. This infusion of funds is set to elevate runways, bolster safety and sustainability initiatives, enhance terminals, improve airport-transit connections, and advance roadway projects. The excitement doesn't end there—with a staggering $2.89 billion earmarked for airport projects in the fiscal year 2023, the sky's the limit for these transformative endeavours. ✈️💼 #AirportInnovation #InfrastructureBoost Hamilton Mayer International

Fascinating article on building #infrastructure effectively (and cost-effectively) in Montreal. Key lessons for other #mobility projects include 1) embedding a rail project in a good bus network helps make existing transport corridors work, 2) strong political and institutional backing is needed for when transit projects hit the inevitable obstacles, 3) it's better to over-spend a small budget than it is to spend-out a large one.

RB Rail AS | Rail Baltica will not pass through all of #Riga before 2030. #Latvia is missing three billion euros for the completion of the line through its capital city. The city has been a major obstacle for the construction of the line, and the entire project risks losing one billion euros in #EU funding if not completed on time. #railfreight #railfreightnews #railcargonews
