"New York needs new solutions that will help avoid expensive and disruptive installation: a new class of heat pumps that work with the existing steam or high temperature hot water infrastructure, and new distribution solutions that make it easier to adopt existing centralized low temperature heat pumps. Solving this problem in New York alone is a $10B market, in the US $40B, and so that’s where we’re focusing the $10M Empire Technology Prize – on developing and demonstrating easy-to-install high temperature heat pumps or distribution systems for NY’s existing tall buildings." Yesterday Molly Dee-Ramasamy, Director of the Deep Carbon Reduction Group at JB&B, participated in a panel discussion to mark the launch of the Empire Technology Prize. A joint initiative of The Clean Fight and NYSERDA, this $10 million-backed challenge is focused on the creation and adoption of hard tech solutions that will have the greatest impact in decarbonizing New York’s tall buildings, at speed. Let the innovation begin!

Hear Hear - systems, not silos. We at Digital Twinning Australia fully support tackling complex global problems through a systems lens. We are experts in applied Cyber Physical Systems infrastructure - a deep tech company that breaks down silos. We make complex systems look really easy and behave intuitively. We are ready, willing and able to be a key player in solving any complex global problem. #innovation #smartthinking #systems #deeptech #trust #traceability #transparency SA Government Queensland Government Department for Industry, Innovation and Science Department for Trade and Investment Department of Industry, Science and Resources BHP Fortescue Future Industries Wesfarmers GFG Alliance
If we hope to match our ambitious intention with accelerated delivery, we must radically shift towards systemic thinking and a holistic approach to design and development. In short, we must tackle global problems from multiple angles simultaneously, not through individual policies or niches of technology. Sally-Ann Williams #NationalReconstructionFund #AusTech

Reading Sally-Ann Williams' post, I was reminded of the recent TV series - Silo. https://lnkd.in/gG7PnW-Z) This paints a bleak vision of the future, depicting a world where individuals inhabit an enormous underground silo spanning hundreds of stories, constrained by stringent regulations that prohibit access to historical artifacts. It bears a striking resemblance to the current state of the innovation system in Australia, where records of past projects and accomplishments have been forsaken and lost in obscurity. So worse than their being no connection between the silos there is no connection to the past. In Australia, we live in such silos as a result of #inboundInnovation and #hiddenInnovation and #forgottenSuccess Hence I agree with the comment that "If we hope to match our ambitious intention with accelerated delivery, we must radically shift towards systemic thinking and a holistic approach to design and development." So the question is how do we go about this? IMHO we need to create information systems that connects the silos AND connects to the past. To support both #innovationDiffusion and #innovationProvenance This is what I have tried to do with my experimental website. https://lnkd.in/gwUEED8j This site is based upon an internet directory system that lists all the components of our innovation ecosystem - government, industry, academia, people, projects, products, strategy, regulation, awards, hubs, precincts, etc etc. These components are labeled so that various portals can be created. For example, I was recently asked on how can we connect someone in robotics to someone in environmental sciences. For example, from the Environmental Sectors https://lnkd.in/gexCJQRD To Robotics Technology https://lnkd.in/gdtnGjGM #NationalInnovationEcosystem This is the subject of an early post by @Kylie Walker https://lnkd.in/gU2x4ScD #criticalTechnologies #nationalRoboticsStrategy #connectedNationalStrategies

It's interesting to see the different categories included in the carbon tech segment. There are numerous forms and technologies being developed to address the carbon issue, with significant investments being made. I still prefer focusing on efforts to reduce emissions directly, but it is good to be thinking about this issue with a multifaceted approach. #carbontech #sustainability #innovation
