Media & PR Coach | Former Editor-in-Chief | Author of "The New Latina: 100 Millennials Shaping Our World"
Can you guess what’s the number one mistake people make when they are pitching? In my 10 years of media experience, I’ve made a lot of mistakes. And I’ve learned a lot. I want to teach you what these mistakes are so you don’t make them. The #1 mistake people make when pitching is… they get the angle wrong. The angle is where the magic is. It’s the way you’re going to tell your story. And it will make or break your opportunity to get a response from an editor that says “we LOVE this idea” vs no response, crickets. It's the difference between saying "I wrote my first book and it's for Latinas!" and saying "I wrote the first book to profile 100 millennial Latinas in all types of careers - including exclusive interviews with your favorite Latina celebrities." You get what I mean. Ask yourself: what do people normally ask me for help with? And what kind of end result do I offer (or, does my product offer)? It’s all about how you can help people achieve that end result, not so much about the product/service you're selling. You still want to talk about your product/service, but it needs to follow a story. Need help defining what your angle is? Use this pitching template next time you send out a pitch: https://lnkd.in/e3_TrwJP #pitchingpress #pitchingmedia #founderlife #smallbusinessowner

⚠️WAIT!!! YOU DEFINITELY NEED THIS BEFORE THE INTERVIEW !! ⚠️ 🧰Imagine you're in the🔥 hot seat, facing the interviewer's keen eyes, and they hit you with that classic question: "Can you introduce yourself?" 🤔 The first option that pops up in your mind is to dive into your experience, right? Sharing those stories about your past achievements, the challenges you've overcome, and the skills you've honed. (YOUR PROUD STORY) 🌟BUT WAIT, HOLD ON! After all, is this interview to test your ability or your ability to help their company? Be SMART ppl. What to prioritize? Rather than saying, I am good at this N that, tell them I have this ability which I can use to help with your company goals. ⏩ Let me give an EXAMPLE:⏩ 🎯Version 1: "Hi, I'm John. I have a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and I've been working in marketing for 7 years. I've managed social media campaigns, designed ads, and created content. I've also worked with a variety of clients and industries, so I have a broad range of experience." —------------------------------------------—------------------------------------- 🎯Version 2: Hello, I'm John. With a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and 7 years of experience, I'm excited to be here. I've seen that your company is all about innovation and customer engagement, which aligns perfectly with my background. I recently led a campaign in my previous role that boosted customer engagement by 20%. This experience affirmed my belief in data-driven strategies to connect with customers, a key element in your company's vision. My skills in social media and content creation make me a great fit to take your marketing to the next level, and I'm eager to help you become the most customer-centric brand in our industry. Pro Tip: Kill two birds with one stone😎😂 Which is BETTER? 🚀🔍

Creativity. It's often lacking in corporate culture, where many people speak an artificial language with no wit or soul. Thankfully, that's not always the case! Whoever came up with this ad is hilarious and creative, and I'll bet it attracted top, top, TOP talent. Who wouldn't want to work for whoever thought of this ad? They clearly value creativity and humor. This is not the product of a stressed workplace. This is the output of someone who loves what they do and wants to attract like-minded people. More ads and job postings like this one, please!

Signature Leadership Video Content and Campaigns That Showcase Your Impact, Protect Your Reputation and Acquire Leads at Scale | Our 4-Step ABCS Process takes your impact from overlooked to in demand online in 90 days
🤔 What career path do you take to meet Oprah? I'll share mine. It sounds crazy, but let me explain. In 2017, I left my job as a Lead IT Recruiter after 3 years. In 2017, I got a Digital Media Buyer job at a top Charlotte digital agency scaling up crowdfunding Facebook Ad campaigns. I leveraged my prior Final Cut Pro X editing skills and got really good at repurposing long form video into cost-per-click dropping short form videos for full funnel campaigns. In 2017, I left that job and started an event video + social media business. (with a new 3 month old and wife who probably thought I was crazy lol) In 2019, I was in a room here in Charlotte producing an interview of Oprah Winfrey. Many people have the right skills, but they are in the wrong room. Someone who sees your current job title, but doesn't see your fullness as person will always think your moves outside of that title are crazy. This is why I've never moved based on others opinions of me. Here's what I did in a 5 step process 1. Identify where you are and what's required to get to the next level 2. Equip yourself with the proper training and mentorship 3. Jump into the "pool" of the results producing real work 4. Don't be surprised with your plan works 5. Repeat It's important to proactively seek out spaces that value and appreciate your unique qualities, rather than those that challenge them without justification. #shareyourstory #myjourney #different #2024 #goals #goalsetting #mentalhealth #careerdevelopment #career

My job at NorFalk just got even better 🤩 (The "piece of news" is at the bottom of this post). First, I bit of background info: I have a growing interest in how to make people thrive in a work environment. Actually, for quite some time, I've super curious about what drives people! At the same time, I find it very meaningful to help foster a workplace where there's room for individual differences and for us as whole human beings with "big emotions". (I think many of us have experienced a work place where we acted as machine-like, 'human doings'?). As to this last part, showing the "entire me", is a big challenge for myself: e.g., showing up to work when I'm dead tired after a rough night with baby twins keeping me awake for hours. In other words showing up as not-the-best-version of myself. This scares me. So when I got sad at work the other day, literally crying about some personal stuff that had built up, and which I could no longer hold back, also due to the lack of sleep, it meant the world to me that my colleagues were understanding of my situation. They gave me some minutes where they listened and then they supported me empathetically... Which was just what I needed. And this episode underlined to me that at NorFalk, in Danish - "er der plads til det hele menneske", which roughly translates to "there is room for the whole human being". 🙌 So I'm very grateful - for being a part of an amazing workplace, and for my new job title that combines my skill set (professional and academic), personality strengths and, of course, a title that does what any good title should do: reflects and underlines my (current and new/upcoming) work tasks: I'm proud to be Head of Marketing, People & Culture at NorFalk. 🥳 'People', rather than 'human resources' by the way! (I guess that's a topic for another LinkedIn post? 😉) Briefly put (too late for those kinds of words, I know 😅), I continue to undertake what I've been enjoying doing professionally for about a decade now: marketing and external communication. And then the exciting, new work duties will encompass 'employee well-being and performance' (those go hand in hand? 🤝), plus 'company culture responsible'. I have much to learn about the last two, new "legs" of my job, and I will keep you all posted about the progress I make along the way 👍

Ex - Content Team Lead Netclues So called Word Monger| Marketing Chef | Go Getter Types | Reading Minds | Gold Medalist Journalism
Money cannot buy this..... Today, while writing a talent acquisition video script for one of our clients at office, a strange hand tapped my shoulder and whispered "hey" Turning around enthusiastically I responded, "Hey, good to see you."👋 She was a colleague from another dept. We exchanged smiles, she said - I've a compliment for you and I was like, "please tell me." Ruchi, I've been reading all your posts on LinkedIn and it inspires me to write, one day I will start writing like you. Strangely, i uttered something really dumb to Maira "I thought people are just looking at my photos."🤐 She replied back with a sass, yes I love the way you represent yourself, but your content is fresh & relatable. She left... putting a smile on my face☺️ Why am I sharing this? Lately, I've been getting real life feedbacks for my LinkedIn posts that I never expected. People I hardly interact with, now know a lot about me, most importantly I am connecting with Buddies who are genuinely looking for growth and have purest intentions. Kisine sach hi kaha hain - Your vibe attracts your tribe😋 Yes, 10K followers would make me happy, but connecting deeply with someone, knowing their story, and making them push boundaries is a real win for me. Plus, I get to learn a lot 🌸 Tag that one person that inspires you everyday🤌🤝 #HumanConnections #LearningOpportunities #PushingBoundaries #Gratitude #PersonalBrand #Trending
