Avoid the pitfall of mindlessly sharing press releases on your LinkedIn feed! I had another discussion this week with a very clued up marketing team. One of the issues we discussed was the need to keep things "social" even when on a professional social media channel such as LinkedIn. In fact, it's maybe even more important in this context. Let's face it, PR releases tend to be quite sterile (and sometimes boring) and don't often lend themselves to any level of edutainment. Your audience is going to respond accordingly. Moreover, you don't speak like that, do you? Your audience will question your sincerity, and your authenticity score will bomb. Lastly, releasing press releases is the job of corporate, and isn't what you should be doing. Instead, leverage the power of storytelling to share your own experiences and those of your business in a genuine and relatable manner, leaving your audience both entertained and wiser. By all means, showcase your expertise and allow yourself a moment to shine. But, if you don't wear a grey suit all day long, it's best not to adopt a writing style that implies you do. #personalbranding #socialmediamarketing #employeeinfluencers #b2bmarketing #keepitreal

Getting featured in the media is great But its not as great if you didn't share it on LinkedIn. Picture this: You saw a friend share on their social media that they were featured in The Straits Times for their business. 📰 You think "wow this person is doing great work!" What happens if they didn't share it online? Chances are that you may not know about this feature. I run Grow Public Relations, a boutique PR agency working mostly with SMEs. In my work on building the reputations of these businesses, I constantly share that building a strong reputation requires a long term strategy of putting your brand out there as much as possible. A strong lasting reputation is more than just a couple of features in the media. It requires a committed effort of telling your story across various platforms and LinkedIn is an important one. How can you be featured in top tier media platforms and have a totally empty linkedin profile? A few months ago, I decided to practise what I have been preaching. I decided to start writing more on LinkedIn to build a stronger profile for myself on the platform. 📝 When I first started, I remember one of my posts having only 10 likes. Were people reading? Maybe not, but I had to keep going. Recently, I signed up for a LinkedIn bootcamp and worked on improving my content. I got my highest performing post of 500+ likes and almost 50,000 impressions. I've since recieved a couple of quality leads, gotten in touch with some possible partners and even got interviewed by CNA938. I know that I'm still early on in this journey but writing on LinkedIn has helped me understand what it means to better optimise our work on multiple platforms for the best impact to a brand. We aim to create the most impactful growth in the reputation of brands beyond just media features.
