Can-Making and Canning Factory Arrigoni (Italy 🇮🇹, 1939). In 1927, Arrigoni of Trieste purchased the CIA of Cesena 🇮🇹, which had been founded only seven years earlier to preserve and transform local fruit and vegetables. Thanks to significant investments and growing orders from the army🪖, Arrigoni's workforce exceeded 1,000 employees in the 1930s, reaching around 5,000 during the war💣. This film was shot in early 1939, in a world that was inexorably entering World War II. The scenes of military leaders inspecting the factory still evoke a shiver today: we sense a strong tension in what is portrayed as a calm day at work. Already in those years, the first groups of rebels against the regime were forming in the factory, spurred by widespread dissatisfaction with low wages. Following acts of sabotage and libertarian propaganda, the first strikes broke out in March 1943 and continued even during the Nazi-Fascist occupation. Many workers were persecuted, sent into exile, or killed following their arrest. During the passage of the front and the retreat of the Germans, the workers managed to save numerous machines by dismantling them and hiding the most important pieces. After the war, with no orders from the army, production entered a serious crisis.
