Retirement Tip of the Week: LEAVE WITH NO REGRETS As our days are numbered in the Corps, we must come to the realization that once the uniform comes off, it will be too late to take action on things you wanted to accomplish while in the Corps. This is your last chance to make your mark while in the Corps. How will you be remembered once you are gone? Did you take care of your Marines during your last 14 months? Did you recognize them for all they did while serving with you? Did you stand your ground when leadership was unreasonable about their desires? Did you provide your Marines the best opportunity to excel in their career? I don't mean to state that one should wait to do any and all of the above until your last 14 months in the Corps, but rather to emphasize that this will be the last time you will be in a position in the Corps to do so. Be wise about how you use your last few months. II know that is one of the areas I think about now. Did I do enough before I retired? Could I have done something different? Did I provide my Marines with opportunities to excel? When this happens, almost coincidentally, I get a text, message or phone call from one of my Marines asking for a letter of recommendation for a job, school or security clearance. I think that answers my question. I HAVE NO REGRETS. #semperauxilio

I finished TAPS this week. It's the US Navy transition program for separating and retiring servicemembers. It is obvious there is no shortage of programs to help in the transition. There are resources for everything; resume writing, interview practice, job search, federal employment, financial planning, VA program utilization, etc. The real question is how do we take advantage of all these programs while also working full-time and tending to a family. In the current manning environment we are forced to ask our command to accept the burden of our absence if we are going to participate in most of these opportunities. Wouldn't it be amazing if we dedicated a few months for every servicemember's transition to re-entering the civilian sector like we do transforming them into Sailors and Soldiers? The week also reinforced this transition is all about mentors and connections. LinkedIn is a powerful tool!

For those transitioning out from active duty, it's a very long and drawn out process to get yourself ready for working as a civilian once more. There isn't one single dictionary or thesaurus to translate your skills & terminology as it depends on your targeted industry & local corporate culture. Silicon Valley will have different ways from Austin or Manhattan. It'll be even more specific within different organizations. https://lnkd.in/e92T6-ZE #sfltap #soldierforlife #veterans #activeduty #taskandpurpose

Don't be surprised or upset about this article talking about the United States Marine Corps and DoD-SkillBridge. This trend will continue to grow because the SkillBridge program is not working as intended. Here's why... ✅ The intent behind SkillBridge is a good one; however, ❌ In practice, SkillBridge has been and will continue to be a lose-lose-lose proposition because military #servicemembers have not done the due diligence to figure out what industry they want to enter, let alone the company, before they enter "a" SkillBridge Let's break down the lose-lose-lose... ❌ The service member loses because they won't get a full time offer, because chances are, they are in the wrong industry and / or company ❌ The company lost a potential employee because the service member chose "a" SkillBridge, not the "right" SkillBridge ❌ The Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve units are losing a taxpayer-funded body needed to accomplish their DoD mission So, when it's broken down like this, it's no wonder why the Marine Corps is curtailing the amount of time service members can participate in SkillBridge and they are not alone. The Navy is significantly curtailing their participation in the program overall. Like we said before, expect this trend to continue—it only makes sense. Think we have it wrong? Let's hear it in the comments below. 👇 #stopbeingsurprised #skillbridge #preveteran

According to a recent article from Military Times, the United States Marine Corps has shifted its approach to focus on retaining enlisted Marines. They have introduced new bonuses, job options, and promotion policies to encourage reenlistments. The goal is to improve the quality of life and provide long-term benefits to Marines. And the results are promising! More and more Marines are choosing to stay for second enlistments, indicating that the efforts are paying off. However, there is still room for improvement in retention, according to Col. Eric Reid, the Corps' head of manpower plans, programs, and budget. The Marine Corps recognizes the importance of holding on to experienced Marines, especially in preparation for potential conflicts with technologically advanced adversaries like China. By retaining these skilled individuals, the Corps can reduce the time and cost spent on training replacements. While there are some concerns about the downsides of an older force, such as decreased deployment eagerness and higher expenses, the emphasis on retention has helped the Marine Corps overcome recruiting difficulties faced by other branches of the military. To create a retention climate, the Marine Corps has implemented various initiatives. Commanding generals have been tasked with prioritizing retention, and career planners are engaging with Marines earlier in their terms to discuss reenlistment options. The Commandant's Retention Program offers streamlined paths to reenlistment and greater choice in duty stations for top-performing first-term Marines. In summary, the Marine Corps' plan to stop Marines from leaving is yielding positive results. By focusing on retention and creating a supportive environment, they are successfully encouraging more Marines to reenlist. #MarineCorps #Retention #MilitaryNews #Enlistment #CareerOpportunities
