I am profoundly excited to share my recently published co-first author paper in Gut, a prestigious journal in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology with an impact factor of 24.5 together with Natalie Heinen. In this paper, we demonstrate that SARS-CoV-2 infects primary human hepatocytes productively and induces antiviral and proinflammatory responses. Aaand it's published !! 🎉😇 At Matoori's Lab, we developped a new molecular-based #biosensor for the diagnosis and prognosis of #chronicwounds and more specifically #diabeticfootulcer (DFU). DFUs are currently the leading cause for non-traumatic lower limb #amputation worldwide and current guidelines still only recommend macroscopic and non-specific evaluation of the wound. Great achievement by the Dutch Mesenteric Ischemia Study Group. Covered stenting is the preferred treatment for patients undergoing mesenteric artery stenting for chronic mesenteric ischemia. Honored to have been part of this double-blind randomized trial which is now published in the Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Another good example of Dutch scientific collaboration to overcome vascular pathologies. Exploring the unexpected connection between testosterone and anesthetic sensitivity in different genders In the new study conducted by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, researchers found that higher testosterone levels were associated with higher anesthetic responses. The study, conducted on mice, found that males with lower testosterone levels were more resistant to anesthetics like isoflurane and sevoflurane. In contrast, no significant effect was observed in female mice after removing their ovaries, confirming that testosterone, not estrogens, plays a crucial role in anesthetic sensitivity.
