Why launch a Women's Leadership Series in 2024? People who identify as women have historically faced significant barriers to advancement in leadership. Despite progress toward equality, women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions across many sectors and industries. A recent Harvard Business Review article reported that while 60% of women are in the workforce, less than 10% hold senior-level positions. When women hold senior positions, the prevailing research reveals that female-led companies outperform their male counterparts in terms of profitability and productivity. The study also finds that women leaders often face unique challenges, including unconscious biases and a scarcity of role models. So, as the number of women in leadership positions increases, there is an urgent need to provide them with the necessary tools to break through internal and external barriers. The Women's Leadership Series is our step toward changing these narratives by: Empowering Women: We aim to empower women with the tools, insights, and confidence to step into their current and future leadership roles and excel in them. We will be drawing from the rich wisdom of feminine leadership principles inspired by a variety of practitioners, scholars, and our lived experiences. Creating a Supportive Community: The leadership journey shouldn't be a solitary one. Our series will provide a platform for women to connect, share experiences, and support one another in their leadership journeys, fostering a strong network of leaders during the sessions, and beyond. Addressing Unique Challenges: Women in leadership positions face unique challenges. Each module in our leadership series is designed to address these challenges head-on, facilitating actions and strategies tailored to the needs of women leaders. At Prism, it is all about research and science to back up our findings. Research shows that female leaders positively influence other members of their organisations by improving team collaboration, increasing perceptions of fair treatment in the workplace and promoting high levels of trust in an organisation. In 2019, McKinsey & Company identified nine leadership characteristics necessary to address future challenges. Of these nine traits, female leaders more often applied five; men two and two were applied equally by men and women. Source: McKinsey & Company (2019). It is well known that women, especially in leadership roles, do a great job at fostering well-being in the people they work with. They are always checking in to make sure everyone else is ok. As always, women sacrifice their own well-being for others. We are socialized to believe that we are supposed to do this happily and without question. And let’s not forget, that if we do take our own well-being seriously, we are deemed selfish. Women leaders also do much more of the DEI work compared with men. A recent report, Women in the Workplace 2022 revealed: Women leaders are 2X as likely as men leaders to spend substantial time on DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) work, and 40% of women leaders say their DEI work isn’t acknowledged at all in performance reviews Doing the majority of the DEI work and managing the well-being of employees are just a few of the reasons why women leaders are burning out and leaving leadership in record numbers. 43% of women leaders are burned out, compared to only 31% of men at their level. For every one woman who is promoted into leadership, two are leaving. We must have women in leadership! There are ways to be in leadership and not let it suck the life out of you personally and professionally. If you would like to learn how to deal with the real-time issues of leadership as a woman, sign up for a Breakthrough Call and be on the lookout for more information about this amazing opportunity. https://buff.ly/3qKc3rh . . #stephaniebyerlymd #coachingforwomen #leadershipcoaching #womeninleadership #leadership #lifecoach #lifecoaching

Bringing the best of leadership, social science, and the field of human potential into the workplace and society
1moHi Jess, Thanks for sharing your thoughts and personal situation. I think that we need to address women in leadership and leadership research in general in a much broader ‚leadership systems’ perspective. We are still too much focused on the individual leader and too little on the relational context (technology, culture, crisis, social media, …) and the interconnection with the followers. Leadership is a system of interactions and we need to better understand the dynamics of the system and the contexts.
