On TV, we see just the highlights but not the enormous amount of work and incredible discipline that lead to success. Such is life. Our own highlights are not isolated events. Instead they are the culmination of hard work, preparation, discipline, and the repetition of good choices and habits over an extended period of time. This preparation is often in private, away from public view. People rarely see our sacrifices and effort, but they will see the success. May we all work like Corey Seager for something meaningful in our personal, family, or professional lives. Some article quotes and highlights; - Seager’s results are the bounty of a work day that he spends rebuilding his swing from the ground-up, every single day. It involves a lot of exercises, video, FaceTime with a private coach and shockingly little swinging of a bat, either in the cage or on the field. - By that point, Seager would have been at the ballpark for six or seven hours. He habitually arrives well before his teammates. Yet as Jung learned, no one knows much about what he does. He hides, even in the corners of his ballpark undergoing a routine that’s as mysterious as it is meticulous. - Past results don’t mean anything when it comes to future success. He has a plan for what type of movements will produce good results for him. Intention and feeling is not enough. Anyone that knows me, knows that Tom Brady is someone I've looked up to. I feel fortunate to have grown up in a time so perfectly aligned with his career. What people who don't follow him as much, or prefer to hate, it may surprise you WHY my admiration has grown for him over the years--- it's not just him being the GOAT on my favorite team-- it's his process and what has made him successful. At his Patriots HOF induction the other night, he made a speech that so perfectly outlines his views on success and that process: *Success and achievement come from overcoming adversity. *Team accomplishment far exceeds anyone’s individual goals. *To be successful, you don’t have to be special, you just have to be what most people aren’t: consistent, determined and willing to work for it. No shortcuts. I could not agree with or believe in those lessons any more. These are lessons that transfer and transcend anything you choose to do in this life. There is no easy button for winning, success or greatness- you just have to WANT to put in the work. You have to love the process, embrace the wins when you get them, and accept that there is always another mountain to climb. Fact or Fiction | Many if not the majority of all coaches in Collegiate and High School sports, conduct their post games ineffectively. The remarks they make after a win and especially a loss, add to clouding the judgement of personal performance assessment and imprints bias of one perspective onto a team with varied viewpoints. What would it look like if coaches transitioned to a new approach of a standardized post game review that asked questions to promote and foster growth and self discovery? --- "It's not every day that athletes get an opportunity to share their true raw feelings." The Detroit Lions, Past Failures, and Never Giving Up I'll get back to habits with tomorrow's post, but something happened last night... That contains an important life lesson too important to pass up. A little backstory... On January 5, 1992, the Detroit Lions defeated the Dallas Cowboys in their first playoff win in 35 years. Ever since then, they had failed to win another. Another three decades of futility. Until last night. A slew of various coaches, general managers, quarterbacks, other personnel, schemes and gameplans repeatedly tried and repeatedly failed to win again in the postseason. Until last night. When the Lions defeated the Los Angeles Rams in a nailbiter. Back when he was hired, head coach Dan Campbell told his players there would be ups and downs. And that things would be tough. But that he had a plan for them, and that if they simply trusted him, things would ultimately work out. And they did. Just because you might have repeatedly failed to shed those extra pounds, eat better, exercise more... And find the necessary why, who, and what to make it work. Does not mean you will always fail. Yes, there will be ups and downs on your health journey. And things will be tough. But I have a plan for you and if you trust me, things will ultimately work out. Pounds will come off. Clothes will fit better. Being a die-hard college football enthusiast, I genuinely believe that pride is the game's soul. These young athletes chase dreams, vying for opportunities to ascend to grander arenas. Unfortunately, for some, this fervor dissipates upon entering the professional realm. Enter Deion Sanders, a figure transforming the team, magnetizing both fans and attention. Yesterday's victory added another chapter to this thrilling saga. Yet, post-game, I sat anticipating—a yearning for someone, either from the media or Sanders himself, to address the looming elephant: penalties. The Buffaloes incurred 9, totaling 80 yards, with three or four being 'unsportsmanlike'. These aren't just numbers; they're potential roadblocks. Much as I revel in their journey and eagerly await the next turn, the stark truth remains. No major victories, no true tales of triumph, can be written with such disciplinary lapses. You can't bring that into one of the big stadiums and expect to win. Talent, power, strength - all are pivotal. Yet, without discipline, they're like unsharpened swords. To truly shine and maximize potential, discipline isn't just recommended; it's indispensable.

Wore my Alabama sweater to church; pastor rocked his Tennessee socks. 🏈 Three reflections on how friendly, yet intense competition sparks immense value. ____ As I was reflecting on text + in person convos with my pastor about the Alabama/Tennessee game (roll tide!) - I realized I want more competition in my life. 1️⃣ Competition wakes up our soul - it sparks things in us that we didn't know existed. Feelings, emotions, hope, excitement, fear. 2️⃣ Competition makes you think outside the box - when something is at stake, linear thinking goes out the window - winning is all that matters. Look silly, sure, try and fail, sure, but leave it all on the field. 3️⃣ Competition brings us together - the medium of friendly competition allows people to get to know each other in quick, efficient and fun ways.
