Meet Josh! 👋 He's based out of our Sac City location, and has been helping area growers with their technology questions at Van Wall for the past 4 months. We've loved having him as part of our Integrated Solutions team, and can't wait to see where his career takes him. Here's more of the story on his precision ag journey: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁? I chose Van Wall because I thought they were a fantastic local company that does a good job of supporting their farmers, and makes everyone feel like family. I like that all my teammates respect one another, and how every part of the company comes together to solve a tough problem for a grower. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 #𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲? I get excited to come to work in the morning because I'm allowed to grow relationships with farmers and help them improve their operations. 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿? Fun fact - I'm getting married to my fiancée, Kaylynn, in December, and she's the reason I got back into agriculture! 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆? I'm passionate about working in agriculture because it's a vital industry that's always changing. For Geswein Farm & Land, I write about #womeninag as a way for women to learn about different aspects of the agriculture industry outside of traditional farming. In this profile, I spoke with Molly Grotjan, who is a recent Purdue University graduate now working for John Deere as a Supply Chain Management Specialist. Molly shares why internships are important and why getting used to being uncomfortable is an important part of life.

Count down to day 1051 of my journey with Corteva Agriscience. Just when i thought things were going ok with the internship, an opportunity that would make things even better came up. Did i not grab it???! 10 month into the internship, your girl was appointed as a Quality Specialist🎉. I really had not moved 378km from home to play. I took on the responsibilities and embarked on a journey of sustainable quality operations and Kaizen philosophy at the core of my career. Careful not to reinvent the wheel, i collaborated with different teams to create a strong Quality culture in Kroonstad. Ask them, they will tell you! With common organisational challenges like low employee morale, lack of competency, resistance to change, discouragement, process deviations, team storming etc I was fortunate to have leaders and team members that spoke words of life, encouragement and success in my life. People that believed in me, even more than i believed in myself at times. To my industry fathers, Stefaans Ramoolla, Moses, Philip, Themba, Bongu; thank you for walking the journey with me. Your words of encouragement and guidance, have carried me through work’s toughest days. I always get an energy the first week of class for Purdue Agriculture! This year, it’s also reminded me of advice and coaching I used to give students. I’ve found in my pivot from academia to industry that generally, the advice holds true for all people, the difference is a willingness to receive it and adjust. Adult professionals - it might seem like eons ago that you were sitting in the seat of excitement that was moving into your college dorm, negotiating your first internship or job, or learning from amazing leaders and experiences that stage of life just brings. My advice? Figure out a way to bring the feeling of new/different/change/network back into your life. The speed of change might not be as fast as it was in your early 20s, I assure you that you will see change if you keep it consistent. Make it personal or professional. Just try it. If you’re afraid to… well, that’s the point. Such a great reflection. Most advisers and students that have interns for their studies do not understand the sacrifice it takes to leave their homes, and make hard decisions to reach both their professional and personal goals. Earning opportunities is hard enough. However, opportunities should also aim to fulfill aspirations, respect common needs such as: eating on time, drinking enough water, having a proper place to rest, and safe installations to perform their activities. Opportunities are hope, and should never compromise physical and mental well being. Interns deserve a place on discussion tables, their names written in papers they participated in, and have the ability to show what they have learned and what they are made of. Interns are NOT less. They also have degrees, they also have knowledge, they CAN supply added value to any field, and they represent an opportunity to show how good a college and their advisors are for the rest of the world. No matter where they come from, or their background. 📝

Post #4, ten things I’ve learned at my internship site: 1. Farming is a little more than it seems to be especially at an older age 2. If I take my time on certain things then they get done the right way 3. Being outside is actually a really nice working condition 4. How to work on mechanical things from tractors down to small things like a lawnmower 5. How to run equipment and what certain equipment does 6. How to handle taking care of animals 7. Time management 8. How to run wheel lines/sprinkler systems 9. How to handle getting physically hurt 10. And I’ve also learned how to manage money so that I’m not spending what I shouldn’t be.

Another Week of Pilot Production! It's hard to believe we're already wrapping up the 3rd week of our pilot production journey! Here's a glimpse into our progress: ✨ We took the valuable insights from last week and elevated our game. Each day brought us closer to refining our processes and making improvements. 🔨 We want to give a special shout-out to our amazing interns. They've embraced their inner carpenters this week, creating a customized mixer that has enhanced our production capabilities. 🌱 We won't sugarcoat it; there have been hurdles along the way, but we're tackling them head-on. Each hurdle we overcome brings us closer to refining our processes. 🎉 We're buzzing with excitement as we enter the last week of the pilot phase. Ag Legacy: Is YOUR Family Interested? https://lnkd.in/gqjfySTN #AGLEGACY #FarmSuccession #EstatePlanning Transfer of management responsibilities for the family farm/ranch is not an easy task and can be made even more difficult when there is no clear successor. What is a family to do in this situation? AG LEGACY can help… Check the AG LEGACY Materials tab at AGLEGACY.org Keeping it in the family – Several options exist to keep the farm or ranch in the family: 1. Lease out the land to a family member; 2. Lease the land to someone outside your family; or 3. Hire an outside manager, while retaining ownership. No longer in the family – Sometimes, it may be impractical to pass the farm or ranch to the next generation. In such situations, families should carefully weigh the trade-offs between equal versus equitable distribution strategies. Some options that families might consider: 1. Divide the property between the children; 2. Sell the operation and pass on the money; or 3. Gift the land to a university as a location for an intern program site. From outside the family – Consider bringing in an unrelated family that is passionate about agriculture and interested in taking over the operation as another option. This approach can be a rewarding way to continue the legacy while also supporting the next generation of farmers. Other options – Other options for transfering a legacy might include gifting, forming a trust or working with an internship program.

Questions I get commonly asked: - How do we pass our skills and knowledge to the next generation? - How can we succession plan? - How can we develop the skills we need for the future? Well the simple answer is time! Spending time talking to your Early Careers teams can be the most powerful thing you do. At Müller we have invested in reverse mentoring and development days made possible by the commitment of senior leaders giving their time to pass on their knowledge and experience. Yesterday our engineering apprentices got to spend the afternoon and evening with our Müller Milk & Ingredients board team. Apprentices were inspired by career journeys, skills they can develop for the future and tools to develop their network and for the board valuable insight from the next generation. #skills #succession
