😀 EUROFOS Fun fact. When you look at these machines for the first time, you may think that you are on the film set of "The War of the Worlds", by H.G. Wells, but in fact these Kalmar "Straddle Carriers" are the most important pieces of machinery on a container terminal. 👉 Called a Straddle Carrier because it "straddles" the container, it has the ability to handle heavy loads and navigate tight spaces. The attached photo is 3 of the new vehicles in action with our industrial division at Navigator Terminals. Did you know? 💥 We have 80 vehicles at our disposal, including everything from HGVS, HIAB’s and Hook Loaders to flatbeds, dropsides and small vans. 💥 We have the ability to move up to 200 tonne of scaffolding per day, including those components that are difficult to navigate. 💥 All of our drivers are fully trained, self-sufficient and possibly some of the friendliest you’ll ever come across! We plan to drive growth even more over the next few months at JMAC and are investing a further £400,000 into our fleet with new hookloaders and flat bed wagons. 🚚💼 Truckers are raising concerns about a proposed rule affecting the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The rule suggests that truck drivers must provide proof of ownership or lease for private chassis, or else undergo a safety inspection before picking up cargo. Trucking companies argue that this requirement will only add to the already long truck turn times at the gateway. The proposal, put forth by the ILWU and the PMA, was initially set to be implemented this week but has been delayed. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: A brewing situation we are tracking at the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach in which the International Longshore Warehouse Union and Pacific Maritime Association are pushing a new rule that requires truckers who use privately-owned or leased chassis to show a lease agreement or proof of ownership upon entry/exit or else be sent over to get a safety inspection ("roadability test"). Talks are underway with the Harbor Trucking Association to find a resolution. As one trucking executive told me, it's onerous because his company would have to place "books full of paperwork" several hundred pages long in every truck to comply.
