Today i had a meeting with a client and the meeting was about a partnership between the client and another platform that i helped develop, even though that alone should be enough reason for me to get super excited, but after the meeting the client thanked me for the experience! She was so excited to start useing that platform and that’s when i realized that i do love my job! Having a customer centric job can be crucial and mostly draining but highly rewarding! 😌 Why i am telling this story? Well, because if that is not the reason why you are in a customer centric role or a frontliner, you need a career shift ASAP, or that job will drain you out. 2 things I don't have time for anymore; BS and liars. Last year, for the 1st time since founding Producto, we said goodbye, no thanks, to a company that wanted our help to hire a key role in their Product Management team. This isn't something we take lightly, but it had to be done because the way they behaved went against our ethos of operating. This customer went back on their word and their agreement with us and did the opposite of everything we had agreed to do which was totally uncool. When I shared this feedback with them in the hope of finding a resolution, they didn't care, which was even more disappointing. For me, that marked the end of the relationship and I told them that it was best we part ways. So why am I telling you this? When you work in partnership, as we do with companies or like an employer and employee relationship, trust has to be present if the relationship will be fruitful for all parties. The vast majority of people I've worked with since founding Producto have been nothing but supportive, and helpful and like to do business with integrity. But sometimes you encounter a few that don't and it's ok to cut them out because their negativity will only bring you down and tarnish your business if associated with it. Some relationships aren't worth your time. Some jobs really do suck. Some people can be a**holes. And some business just isn't worth having. Stick to your values and find people who value and appreciate you for who you are and what you bring to the table. PS.
