This week, Falon Alo, our Director of Humanitarian Services, had the unique opportunity to attend the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) Conference in Phoenix, AZ. She met with leaders from across the United States who work in disaster response, recovery, and case management. We are excited to see how the relationships built at the conference can help us to build great partnerships to increase the effectiveness of our response capabilities! #VOAD #Phoenix #disasterrecovery #disastercasemanagement #disasterresponse #emergencymanagement

“The limitations on federal assistance have frustrated survivors and delayed recovery for far too long. The Biden-Harris Administration was determined to remedy this situation and help reach more people -- especially in communities disproportionately impacted by disasters.” - FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell Please register for this webinar to learn more about the effort to reform FEMA Individual Assistance: https://lnkd.in/e7aWfk6U FEMA has been collecting feedback for decades from disaster survivors, communities and stakeholders like National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, United Way, NAACP, Operation HOPE, The Salvation Army - Emergency Disaster Services - USA, Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management , Next Leadership Development, The Undivide Project and so many more partners, including from public comments the agency solicited in 2021, on how to specifically improve the Individual Assistance program. State partners and members of Congress have echoed these concerns and pressed for simpler, more straightforward programs to assist individuals across the country as they recover. Those shared experiences serve as the foundation of FEMA’s updates. #emergencymanagement #disasterresponse #disasterrecovery #financialresilience #financialpreparedness #disaster #emergencypreparedness

Senior International Development Professional, Organisational Leader and Board Level Advisor, specialising in delivering initiatives and aid programmes in complex global environments
In the 9th post in our #caribbeanresilience series, my colleague Simone Banister talks about UK support for emergency response and recovery after natural disasters, working with partners like Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), World Food Programme, International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC, Pan American Health Organization, as well as the Royal Navy to provide urgent life-saving support to affected communities. Sadly, the need for this kind of support is increasing, as is the cost of recovery. Throughout our series we have shown how countries can mitigate the worst impacts of natural disasters with robust planning and by building resilience into their infrastructure, systems and finances. #emergencymanagement #climateadaptation #resilience
