Disasters affect people. Responses should be tailored to fit their needs. But after a disaster, the most vulnerable individuals, children, families, and communities often have increased challenges on their road to recover. The Administration for Children and Families, or ACF, supports vulnerable children, individuals, and families through its diverse human services programs and grants. That’s why ACF believes human services are essential for supporting people before, during, and after a disaster. In our 2nd post, we’re introducing you to Disaster Human Services. It’s the bridge between emergency management and human services programs, and a key mission of the Office of Human Services Emergency Preparedness and Response (OHSEPR). The new OHSPER video explains how focusing on Disaster Human Services during preparedness, response, and recovery planning and operations can make sure the most vulnerable receive the right services at the right time. With law enforcement agencies around the world looking to make the best use of volunteers, Policing Insight’s Andrew Staniforth looks at a EU new report by a group of research projects which has identified a range of measures to leverage the maximum potential from community volunteers in responding to and recovering from major disasters. ❝The awareness of citizens and local authorities in relation to disaster response and recovery often seems some distance removed from strategic policy frameworks.❞ ❝It also acknowledges that strengthening societal resilience to disasters requires investment by authorities at operational, strategic, and policy levels to improve engagement with citizens and integrate inclusive communication processes.❞ ❝To maximise the role of volunteers during disasters, the SRC report recommends that senior leaders must regularly review and revise disaster and crisis management doctrines to better leverage spontaneous contributions from the community.❞ ❝In the wake of an ever-changing disaster risk landscape, communities must strengthen their capacity to resist, absorb, accommodate, transform, and recover from the effects of disasters as swiftly and efficiently as possible.❞ [SUBSCRIBER ARTICLE] https://lnkd.in/eJrfwwTe #lawenforcement #policing #police #volunteers #disasters

We continuously hear about the impact disasters have on young people, but also of the resilience and passion young people have to build back better. Some quick facts: - 1 in 4 children live in conflict or disaster-stricken countries - In 2018, there were 31 million displaced children globally and finally - 60% of young people believe their views are ignored when it comes to important decision being made.
