Happy Independence Day! One of my classroom activities that really vexes people is setting a timer for 3 minutes and talking out loud in possibility. Often, people only make it 1 minute, and many people go into a freeze response when asked to flex their imagination out loud. If you are a growth leader, you flex your imagination muscles. What is possible for you? What is possible for your team? What is possible for your organization? Your community? Your state? Your nation? The world??? Set a timer for 3 minutes. Talk out loud. No, it's not crazy to talk out loud. That's an urban myth. If you go into freeze response, try writing instead for 3 minutes. No filter. Set yourself free. You are an independent thinker! You don't need to google this challenge, read about it, or ask someone else about how to do it "right." There is no right. It's play. It's for fun. It is creation. No! You don't have to do this! You can keep doing what you're doing. You can stay committed to what is. Accept the status quo. Depending on how you're feeling or what's going on, you may choose to cruise for a while. But... what is more fun??? LOL Happy Independence Day! Hope you all are deeply enjoying your summer, your community, your connections, and your endless independent ability to create. :)

5 choices to better your quality of life! 1. Patience over quick results. All good things do take time. 2. Individuality over peer pressure. Afterall no two life trajectories are same. 3. Self-confidence over others. You need to know your worth before making others realise it. 4. Appreciation over arrogance. Learn rather than demean others of their achievements. No one has everything. 5. Assertive over taken for granted. Be aware of where to draw a line. In this world, you need to be clear of your opinions. Just some quick reminders before the new week! I love working for a company that finds ways to support causes in financial and thoughtful ways. My friends know how much volunteer work means to me personally, so this was a no-brainer to take part of. The task was to write a letter to a graduate. Not a high school or college grad, but a special 8th grade graduate. One of the 'ideas' to prompt the letter writing process was "what's one thing I wish I'd known in 8th grade". It got me thinking about the song Dear Younger Me, by MercyMe. The lyrics begin with: 🎶 Dear younger me, where do I start? If I could tell you everything that I have learned so far, then you could be one step ahead. With graduation season being in full swing, I would love to know what you would tell your 8th grade self. If you had a looking glass that could take you back in time, and you could look yourself in the mirror, what are the words you would say that would make the most impact, change the path of your direction, or give you the encouragement you may have lacked at that age? A few thoughts of my own come to mind. 🔸 Don’t sweat the small stuff because what they’re doing doesn’t mean it’s right for you. 🔸 It's NOT okay for boys to tease you because "they like you". 🔸 Always shop the clearance rack first. 🔸 You're mom is most likely right (ouch, that one hurts!). And, so many more. Happy Graduation to all of the achievers, young and old! Go change the world, be a better person, and always make yourself proud. 🎓

N E W B E G I N N I N G S 🤩 As we step into a fresh school year, homes are buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Kids eagerly await reunions with friends, while parents embark on rediscovering routines and diving back into work after the rejuvenating holiday break. Personally, I find joy in the little things—the crispness of sharpened pencils, the meditative act of labeling pens, and the delight of neatly covering books. There's something special about the promise a new school year brings! What part do you love? As you tuck your children into bed tonight, take a moment to connect. Ask about their feelings, listen without judgement, and encourage open conversations. No expectations—just a genuine curiosity about their experiences. This week, consider asking them to share three words they'd like their friends to use in describing them; it's a beautiful way to stimulate meaningful conversations. These school years pass quickly, and you might one day look back fondly on these moments. So, relish the simplicity of these times and savour the joy in every little detail. Here's to a fun-filled new start and a smooth journey into the school year ahead. Sending lots of love and a sprinkle of post-it notes your way! Linda 🌱

Yesterday celebrated my 74th birthday. That’s about 27,028 individually lived days. Often we start our day as a struggle to see if our resources are going to meet the day’s challenges. What if we changed that perspective to seeing our day as opportunities to learn and help? When I became Senior Director of Education at the Bidwell Training Center a year ago, I adopted these two questions as the starting point of every day: What will I learn today? and, Who will I help today? The first question resets all my daily encounters as learning opportunities rather than frustrations, dissapointments, conflict, etc. The most important learning that happens is about myself. I get to ask myself questions like, Why did that frustrate me? Why was I disappointed by that? Why do I feel there’s a conflict in this situation? I have found that resolving a situation by authority usually means that I will face the situation again, however, solving a situation by learning about myself and those involved usually allows all to build a mutual solution that we all can use again and again. The second question has brought a positive context to all my daily encounters. I meet with multiple staff members and students every day. The question, “Who will I help today?” forms the predicate for those meetings. They are not interruptions or distractions. They are part of my fundamental reason for being where I am today. They are who I will help. I remind myself constantly, “If you’re not here to help then why are you still here?” I know I will have another great day tomorrow because I will learn more about myself and, I am sure, will find someone to help. I hope your day will be as great as mine.
