Years ago, I embarked on a journey to explore a troubling phenomenon that I had observed affecting two close male friends. Little did I know, as I delved into writing a university essay on the subject, that there existed a term for it: parental alienation. This insidious practice occurs when one parent undermines the relationship between their children and the other parent (and extended family!), often in the aftermath of separation or divorce. Despite being well-documented, parental alienation remains poorly understood as a form of domestic abuse. For professionals in the legal, psychological, and mental health fields, as well as those working within child services and the court system, this is an invaluable opportunity to deepen understanding of psychological manipulation. Leading experts on the subject will converge in Oslo from September 4th to 6th, 2024, shedding light on this critical societal problem. Mark your calendars, take advantage of Early Bird discounts available until June 1st, and secure your spot by registering at www.pasg.no. #ParentalAlienation #DomesticAbuse #PsychologicalManipulation #ChildServices #LegalProfessionals #Psychology #MentalHealth #FamilyLaw
Registration is now open for the PASG International Conference on Parental Alienation in Oslo September 4-6. Don't miss the Early Bird offer ending June 1st: pasg.no/konferanse-2024 https://lnkd.in/dEikmAcF

🖤 Culturally safe recruitment and employment barriers #NRW2024 🖤 I met a customer yesterday who was finding it difficult to obtain a job; he explained to me he had a back injury and reduced lifting capacity, has alcoholism and attends support meetings, and also has dental issues and social anxiety. 🖤 He had volunteered as a gardener at a rehabilitation centre he was staying at and was looking for part-time cleaning or landscaping work. His motivation to find and secure work was genuine, and I am sure once he finds work, he would be in the role long-term. 💛 This story demonstrates an individual's disability, and their subsequent need to attend essential care appointments are often barriers to employment which are overrepresented amongst Indigenous job seekers. 💛 This customer had not found an employer yet who could offer flexibility on job tasks and days of work. Employers he had contacted were not able to make adjustments due to role requirements, and others did not feel adequately prepared to support him through the hiring process and once at work. ❤️ One of the great initiatives outlined in our RAP is our own cultural competency training. Developed by our Indigenous Advisory Committee, it teaches our staff how to create a safe workplace for Indigenous employees. This type of training is beneficial in guiding organisations through the recruit to hire process and how to start questioning unconscious biases. ❤️ Check it out below. MAX | Andrew Davitt
Our commitment to reconciliation gives a strong Indigenous voice to our Indigenous employees that is central to our decision making and delivers equitable access to employment and opportunities. This NRW, we're excited to launch our new RAP which will guide us for the next 2 years. IAC Chair and proud Wangkumarra and Barkindji man, Sean Gordon, commends MAX for the strength of our commitment and the steps we have committed to in our new RAP. He said: “There is a lot that has changed and it’s interesting to think about where that change happens. Leadership is critical but, in the end, change happens at the level of the individual. That person that rethinks what they are doing, how they do things, how they could do more or do it better, how they can support and build others. In the end, this comes back to respect. Respect for each other and our different histories and stories and the willingness to listen and consider those other perspectives.” MAX Managing Director Darren Hooper affirms MAX’s commitment to driving reconciliation through our business and challenging ourselves to do more to make positive impact. He said: “Within MAX, we have seen major change since our first RAP, this change driven through our Indigenous Advisory Committee (IAC) and our RAP Working Group. While we have achieved a great deal to date, we can do more and we can do better. I look forward to our IAC continuing to identify where we can refine and improve what we are currently doing and where there are new opportunities to stretch ourselves. “We have come a long way but still have more to do. Our new RAP challenges us to build on our strong foundations, continue to listen and learn, and do all we can to achieve what we have set out. “ Full story: https://lnkd.in/gSFTdQZH

I am very happy to share this new opportunity with everyone. I recently joined the European Capital of Democracy as a citizens' jury. The ECoD works in collaboration with citizens like you and me, civil societies to create a better future for democracy in Europe. With our world becoming more and more interdependent on certain levels, the presence of conflicts and crises, it is becoming more important to focus on what we can do now. Democracy can influence peace and stability, and have an impact on the climate, equality, freedom and safety. Networks, organisations, institutions, associations, groups and businesses help to open up the dialogue and collaborate towards a prosperous future. Democracy is an important topic for me as I believe in fairness, equality, representation and social cohesion. The programme year has a number of projects and initiatives with a wide European audience to create inclusivity, diversity, change, growth and development in terms of democracy. Would you be interested in taking part of this initiative? https://lnkd.in/eZA2izYW

GVG’s 1st ever Townhall and we have our own shirt now 🙌🏻 It was an insightful event that was well-thought and organised by the Deputy Directors 💯 Few highlights that include Fireside chat where we had the pleasure to hear more from two GVG leaders, Icebreaker session (GVG edition of Bingo) where we discover more about our colleagues and last but not least, the Divisional sharing by the directors on the topic of Governance and the work we do in GVG. Exciting times ahead! Some key takeaways: 1. Always keep an open mind to new ideas and opportunities, be curious 🧐 2. Taking ownership of your work and knowing the value you deliver. Knowing the WHY is key 👍🏼 3. Governance is an art and requires practioners to strike a balance. I specifically like the analogy shared, where we decide how many traffic lights to install on the road, while managing the balance between allowing smooth traffic flow and ensuring road safety. 🚦 Also, Hello to all the new colleagues 👋🏻 and Happiest birthdays to all July babies! 🥳 Can you also spot the “GVG” in the cake arrangement? 🤗 What a wonderful session! #governance GovTech Singapore Lim Thian Chin 🇸🇬 Mark Chan Zhenfa Ng Koh Sook Bing Adrian Goh

Upcoming webinar with RACGP: Our Woven Ways: Supporting goal setting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents Thursday 25 July 2024, 7:00–8:00pm AEST Registrations are open for the next webinar with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). Continuing on with the case study explored in the third webinar in this series, this fourth webinar will examine ways to support goal setting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents through culturally safe practice. In meaningful goal setting, GPs can listen to the ideas and know-how of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents as a basis for making change. This supports the assumption that parents come with histories of doing their best for their children and that they are capable of setting and reaching goals which best support their children. It also ensures that mainstream practice avoids culturally biased or prejudiced practice. Register here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gggrMP68

Last night’s referendum result was disappointing. The result was also in line with recent polls. When the details of the proposed referendum were released back in March, the split of of public opinion for and against the Voice was the opposite of where it landed yesterday. So what changed, to turn Australia from a majority full of heart into one guided by fear? Sitting in between the announcement and the vote was an effective, well-funded, data-driven misinformation campaign that targeted those sitting on the fence, following the playbook of the misinformation campaign that gave birth to Brexit. The result doesn’t mean that Australians are inherently racist. Our inherent nature is reflected in our response to polls taken at the time that the details of the referendum were announced. The result is a painful reminder that to move forward with any progressive cause in modern Australia – ethnic relations, climate, inequality - requires a strategy that is resistant to misinformation. Such a strategy was articulated by Noel Pearson in the context of our industry at the CEC Summit in July: “The one animation other than self-interest that might be as powerful, if not more powerful, than self-interest, is the love of the home. Oikophilia. Love for the Country. Love for the Land. Love for the Nature. And that animation of love for our inheritance as a people must be a strong driver to combat ecological decay. As much as self-interest, we’ve got to enliven the love of Australians for this land. It is potentially as powerful as self-interest.” It's worth listening to the full speech here, especially Pearson's closing remarks from 23:40:
