Beyond the country’s shores, there lies an expansive market that US #petfood manufacturers are tapping into. The global appeal of American-made pet foods cannot be understated. However, a complex weave of suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers means any disruption along the #supplychain, however localized, can ripple through the system with considerable impact. Read more about current supply chain challenges and how the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) is working to alleviate them: https://ow.ly/xukF50Qq6zs #petfoodindustry #trade #exports

Consuming meat is just like consuming beef. When a cow can't produce milk anymore, it is sent to the slaughterhouse for beef. The dairy and beef industries are interconnected. Break the chain, stop dairy consumption. #beef #milk #dairymilk #dairyindustry #dairyiscruel

The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) is urging the Crown corporation overseeing dairy supply and pricing to halt any further milk price hikes amidst efforts to keep food prices stable. The Canadian Dairy Commission proposed a potential 1.77% increase in milk prices for February. However, CFIG invoked an "exceptional circumstance mechanism," highlighting the unique challenges faced by the grocery industry. They emphasized the need to align with the government's goal of price stability for all Canadians and urged consultations before price adjustments. CFIG stressed that raising milk prices could burden small retailers and counter price stability objectives. The Dairy Farmers of Canada emphasized that industry practices influence consumer costs. The situation underscores the importance of transparency in pricing decisions. Last year, the commission faced criticism for lack of transparency amid rising costs for farmers. CFIG's efforts have contributed to a better understanding of the pricing process.

Milk producers sour over carton shortage. #Dairy suppliers and others cite #packaging manufacturer Pactiv Evergreen as the supply problem’s source. Competing producers are trying to fill the gap. A gable-top carton supply chain snag has milk suppliers scrambling for alternative carton sources. If it continues, the shortage could result in suppliers dumping milk, higher consumer dairy prices and schools that struggle to meet federal nutrition requirements. Customers report difficulty in procuring 8-ounce, or half-pint, cartons as well as 4-ounce cartons. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service acknowledged in an Oct. 25 memo that some schools were having trouble getting their supplies of milk due to supply chain issues, highlighting that it is a packaging issue and not a milk issue. The problem could become more widespread and affect grocery store supplies; anecdotal reports indicate some areas already are experiencing this. #milk #schoollunches #cartonsupply https://lnkd.in/gXVbG7uB

Our CEO Eric Hansen attended the Fall Meetings of the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) Executive Council and Industry Segment Boards from 2-4 October in Washington, DC. We were thrilled to sponsor the reception and dinner on Tuesday the 3rd. Here’s a summary of Eric’s brief speech at the dinner: Eric made two key points when he spoke at the IDFA Spring Board Meetings in May: ~ GDT is majority owned by regulated exchanges – European Energy Exchange AG (EEX) in Europe and NZX Limited in New Zealand, both of which have strong commitments to dairy. ~ GDT’s price discovery uses the same method as the US Treasury to auction government bonds and is proven best practice for achieving the market price. A new point Eric added was that GDT is a strong sales channel in its own right, with numerous buyers for core US products such as cheese, whey and lactose. This is important, given the potential magnitude of new production coming online in 2025. ~ Mike McCully is predicting that cheese exports will need to increase by about 10% (45K MT) in 2025, the equivalent to another Japan for US cheese. ~ Mike also predicts that production of WPC80 and whey permeate is likely to grow 20-25%, the majority of which will need to be exported. Given these export projections, GDT’s regular twice-monthly global auction is ideally suited to be part of the US channel to market. At every Trading Event we have a mass of buyers turning up ready to bid on a wide range of products: ~ We have 143 bidders who purchase cheese products, either via GDT or outside of GDT. ~ We have 96 bidders who purchase whey products. ~ And we have 71 bidders who purchase lactose. These are bidders who regularly turn up to our auction. So, if you are an exporter of cheese, whey or lactose products – or about to become one – it would be a no-regrets strategy to join GDT as soon as possible so that you’re well positioned in advance of the major increase in supply into the export market. If you wish to learn more and discover the GDT advantage in trading, get in touch with us at help@globaldairytrade.info #jointhebest #gdt #pricediscovery #usdairy #cheese #whey #bidders

Butter prices have soared since our last dairy market report - on the back of shortages and good demand from traders looking to cover exposed selling positions. Other commodities are not enjoying such a rally, with cream, SMP and cheddar relatively static and finding the going hard as demand remains very lacklustre. The good news is that there are further milk price rises being announced, with the two giants - Arla and Muller - up for March and April respectively. Arla’s increase on its manufacturing price puts it above 40p - the first time we’ve seen that from any processor since May 2023 and the first from Arla since March 2023! It is time to shift from killing setient beings for food in torture chambers we call factory farms where 99 percent of meat and dairy comes from to meat textured food made from plants. Tyson factory farms have poisoned our waters and communities, made family farmers go bankrupt too. If our government would do its job and lead for ethics and the health of people by pushing for change the industry would follow - looks like industry is starting to change. Their is big profits for government and industry in innovation. #Innovation #AnimalAgriculture #Plant-based
