📣 Communication & Stakeholder Engagement Professional | Clear strategy and practical implementation to up-level your 📣 Message ⛓️ Engagement ✨ Impact
So excited to read about this project in the SCC newsletter about the latest Historian-in-Residence Project, focusing on our local cemeteries and (historic) stonemasons (as I'm sure you all will be...who doesn't love a good stonemason story?? 😉) Key lines that gave me a buzz… “Monumental masons were the public artists of their day and often the most skilled craftsmen in the area” Pondering: How many do it today? How has the profession evolved? Is this talked about with kids as a potential gig when they grow up? (Surely the demand is still there?). "Masters of an ageless stone craft, the early rock stars (masons) even signed their work like an artist, partly out of pride and partly self-promotion." Love it. As they should. As we all should. Take a leaf out of their book. "…individuals also chose memorials as a personal, yet public, expression of their beliefs, values and community connections…" Pondering: Do we talk about these elements when choosing a marker for ourselves or loved ones? I think we consider what our person would have wanted. These days, do we still consider the message we’re sending the rest of the world? Does it matter? Should it? Augh - so many questions! I sense a rabbit-hole opening up and I couldn’t be more delighted to be diving in. Meanwhile, take a moment to have yourself your own ponderings next time you drive past a cemetery - as the article says, these places share stories well beyond the grave . Check out the article for details about the project – especially if you’re a local – you might have information that can help Dr Lisa Murray shine a light on this fascinating area of local history.
It is not only the stories of the people buried in cemeteries which are interesting. Cemetery landscapes, gates and entrances, unique memorials, grave furniture and floral displays are all important elements that tell us about the community's history and values. Monumental masons were the public artists of their day and often the most skilled craftsmen in the area. Here's the call out for information and stories for cemeteries in the Sunshine Coast Council. It includes cemeteries at: Beerburrum, Beerwah, Buderim, Caloundra, Diddillibah, Eumundi, Kenilworth (Gheerulla), Kulangoor, Landsborough, Mapleton, Mooloolah, Nambour, Peachester, Witta, Woombye, Yandina. https://lnkd.in/g7DzBjar

Radiating Hope: Juhi Consulting's Founder/Director Empowers End of Care Landscapes with Creativity and Transformation
🌿 Important Announcement Regarding Altona Memorial Park 🌿 Dear LinkedIn Community, I wanted to take a moment to address recent events concerning the theft of memorial plaques at Altona Memorial Park, managed by The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust. While we acknowledge the immediate concern surrounding these incidents, it's essential to recognise the broader implications at play. The removal of memorials from a cemetery or any landscape is a multifaceted issue with profound implications for our cultural, social, environmental, and political landscapes. From a human geography perspective, this removal touches upon various critical aspects: 🏛 Cultural Impact: Memorials serve as poignant symbols, reflecting the beliefs and values of those they commemorate. Their removal can disrupt the continuity of cultural narratives and historical significance. 🤝 Social Dynamics: Cemeteries are sacred spaces for communal remembrance and reflection. Alterations to the landscape can significantly impact social interactions and ignite tensions among diverse groups. 🌍 Environmental Concerns: It's important to consider the environmental footprint associated with memorial production, including resource extraction and the potential for habitat destruction, resource depletion and modern slavery. 💪 Power and Representation: Decisions surrounding memorialisation are inherently linked to power dynamics, often raising questions of equitable representation and social justice. As professionals, there's an opportunity for us to engage in deeper reflection and dialogue on these complex issues. Let's come together to explore themes of grief, loss, and memorialisation, while considering the diverse perspectives and stakeholders involved. Your understanding and support are deeply appreciated as we navigate these challenges together. #Memorialisation #CemeteryCulture #CulturalLandscape #SocialReflection #EnvironmentalAwareness #CommunityDialogue #GriefJourney #RememberingTogether #CemeteryManagement #HeritagePreservation Image Credit: Altona Park, The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust

The culture and identity of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas is one uniquely tied to the longleaf pine tree. Working in partnership with the Tribe, we've been using prescribed fire to put more beneficial flames on the ground and restore longleaf pine forests in Southeast Texas.
