On This Day | August 13 On this day in 1521, Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés captured Tenochtitlán (now Mexico City) after a 93-day siege, thereby ending the Aztec empire and winning Mexico for the crown of Spain. The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, also known as the Conquest of Mexico, the Spanish-Aztec War (1519–1521), or the Conquest of Tenochtitlan was one of the primary events in the Spanish colonization of the Americas. There are multiple 16th-century narratives of the events by Spanish conquistadors, their indigenous allies, and the defeated Aztecs. It was not solely a small contingent of Spaniards defeating the Aztec Empire but a coalition of Spanish invaders with tributaries to the Aztecs, and most especially the Aztecs' indigenous enemies and rivals. They combined forces to defeat the Mexica of Tenochtitlan over a two-year period. For the Spanish, Mexico was part of a project of Spanish colonization of the New World after 25 years of permanent Spanish settlement and further exploration in the Caribbean. Educator & Scientist advancing fundamental awareness on life processes and Visionary seeking a continuum of socially constructive endeavors
Kelath Murali Manoj's response to Cyrus Khojasteh, Senior Director at Genentech, in response to his "compliment" to the assembly of "pseudo-professionals" of the ISSX meeting coming up!! (I have to call them so, because they do not consider evidence and publications that counter their line of thinking! This is not a matter of choice, it is a professional/moral obligation!!) My Frontiers in Pharmacology (2016) paper lists 50 distinct unassailable points that ESTABLISHED why the classical approach to xenobiotic/drug metabolism is flawed and murburn model explains liver metabolism mediated by CYPs-CPR. (https://lnkd.in/gkqdyGJZ) Further, my group's published works are in mainstream journals like PLoS One, BBRC, Dose Response, and CDM. Not only that, now murburn model is established for mitochondrial redox phosphorylations too! See the latest of my talks here: https://lnkd.in/gsgXaC-4 (from 37th minute). The findings pose profound impact on lead-drug optimization, understanding dose responses, drug-drug interactions and pharmacokinetics. I had spent thousands of dollars from my own pocket to come to USA and presented my works to you folks on CYP-CPR metabolism in GRC and ISSX conference in 2015. What good was my presentation to you folks at Genentech before this year's GRC? I had requested for attention with your organizers and didn't get it, and then made scenes with the leaders at the ISSX meeting in 2015 (Florida) so that your leadership feathers would be ruffled. It didn't. How thick-skinned are you folks?? The so-called prestigious GRC is a FARCE! I was disciplined by Mike Zientek of Pfizer (Chair) for trying to reach out (by email) to fellow researchers with my findings at the venue, when the advertisement had proclaimed that one could freely interact with attendee researchers! Your all-star line-up is a serious joke! Your complementing each other, disregarding the murburn model of xenobiotic/drug metabolism is deplorable. I must say it is a great disservice you folks do to the public and to yourselves. You all will go down in history, with this attitude. (Including the pioneering stalwarts like Coon, Guengerich, Ortiz de Montellano, Sligar, etc.!) Keep such meetings at exotic places, go there, eat-drink and form consensus that don't make any sense to us, and just go on patting each others back when the winds of change had already blown! I have all the evidence to show for all of my claims. It's a sham(e)!! I hate to do this (casting aspersions on associations/institutions), but you folks (and your leaderships) leave me no options and now, I have to do this.
SAVE THE DATES! International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics and JSSX are pleased to invite you to the 26th North American ISSX and 39th JSSX Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii, September 15 -18, 2024. ISSX/JSSX Meeting Organization Committee: Co-Chairs:Natalie Hosea and Kiyomi Ito Committee: Deepak Dalvie, Aleksandra Galetin, Sarah Glass, Kenta Haraya, Hideki Hirabayashi, Kazuya Maeda, Mary Paine, Yoshiyuki Shirasaka, Fumiyoshi Yamashita, Hiroshi Yamazaki, xinning yang Additional details will be announced in November. We look forward to seeing you in 2024!

On 19 February, shared my thoughts on a panel discussing the approach of Global South countries to the Russian invasion of Ukraine at #CafeKyiv in Berlin. #globalsouth #russiaukrainewar #brics
Why Russia is not regarded an imperialist power in many African countries and how Europe could approach countries of the so-called Global South in a better way were only two of many interesting aspects in our discussion “Europe’s problems are not the world’s problems and the world’s problems are not Europes problems” at #cafekyiv. A big thank you to Ximena Docarmo, ming shi, Ashutosh Nagda and Isaac Otidi Amuke for sharing your views with us! And of course to my colleague and co-moderator Henri Bohnet!
