Latest AI News: OpenAI's generative AI bot, ChatGPT, now supports third-party plug-ins, including PDF plug-ins. These plug-ins, such as Ai PDF, AskYourPDF, Doc Maker, and ScholarAI, allow users to search, summarize, and create PDF documents with the help of ChatGPT. Ai PDF can analyze PDFs from the web or uploaded from a computer, while AskYourPDF focuses on summarizing long documents. Doc Maker assists in creating PDFs with ChatGPT's assistance, and ScholarAI allows users to search and query scientific papers. Completely agree with Ben Lee here. Going "deep not wide" is wildly underrated right now. So many conversations center around the newest AI company on the block, but I think most professionals — and companies — would benefit far more from mastering and scaling a few core technologies. Plugins offer enhanced effectiveness for a specific reason. Unlike other tools that necessitate credentials to access data, the plugin ecosystem operates on the content already visible on the page. This approach empowers end-users, giving them greater control over the data they wish to subject to intelligent processing.

AI doesn't always save you time. How often have you wasted two or three hours trying to understand a new AI tool? Every day seems to bring a new app, a new platform, and a new game-changer. It's tempting to try them all. But you can't be an expert in everything. And when it comes to AI, your expertise matters. That's why I've made a conscious choice to go deep, not wide. To focus on understanding a core set of tools really well. For me, that's nine tools that I use every single day. So here’s my Step Three in ‘Building an AI L-A-U-N-C-H-P-A-D’ for your team / career / business (delete as appropriate). U = Understand 9 tools well. Here’s my BIG 9, the tools I use every day. There's OpenAI's ChatGPT4, of course Perplexity for research Anthropic's Claude 3 for aiding writing and summarising  Gemini AI Advanced (best all-rounder. better than ChatGPT and Claude, in my view) Beautiful.ai for presentations  Midjourney for image generation Fireflies.ai for transcription and conversation analysis Zapier for automation Microsoft Copilot for admin These aren't just tools I've played with. These are tools I've invested in. Tools whose features, quirks, and capabilities I now know much better. Only when you truly understand a tool, can you push it to its limits. Take Fireflies, for example. On the surface, it's just AI transcription. But for me, it's become a knowledge bank. Meetings, conversations, brainstorms - it's all there, transcribed and searchable, ready to be mined for insights and ideas. So don't get caught up in the hype of every new AI app. Don't spread yourself thin trying to master them all. Pick a few that resonate with you, and complement your skills and your workflow. It might take you longer to do something with AI in the beginning. But once you've mastered it, you might get that time back x 100. Which are your go-to AI tools? Simply write the text “Create xxx” straight into the prompt in “Creative” mode ask in writing for an image. It returns beautiful pictures in return. Alternative: go to bing.com/create – note: this week this feature has had issues to run properly, especially in Bing Enterprise) -Why DALL.E3 via ChatGPT+ / Bing Create for images? These solutions has one huge advantage over all other text to image generation platforms: since it's built into ChatGPT, it generates its own prompts. This week, I delivered a short internal presentation on how to use generative AI chatbots at work. This is very much a topic that we are still figuring out, but I found it helpful to break it down into these 7 use cases: 1. Text transposition - This refers to turning text of a specific kind into another kind - e.g. an event description into a Linkedin post advertising this event 2. Text expansion and cleanup - For example, turning my messy notes from a roundtable conversation into shareable key take-aways 3. Correspondence - I sometimes find it helpful to have ChatGPT help with drafting emails (though in this use case editing is even more necessary than with the others) 4. Structures and narratives - I use ChatGPT to help get from half-baked ideas and thoughts to a more formed narrative, or to provide structure of a presentation based on notes and ideas 5. Research and explanation - It can be useful to ask ChatGPT to explain concepts I don't understand (for example, I recently asked it to provide examples of supply-side stimuli) 6. Summaries and key take-aways - Using plugins, ChatGPT generally a good job in providing summaries of articles, papers, and Youtube videos (provided they have a transcript) 7. Data analysis - I have used ChatGPT to analyze data and generate charts, though I find that to be a hit and miss thing. The usual caveats apply to all of them: ChatGPT may produce incomplete, inaccurate, or just plain boring text. Take time to fact check and edit. Treat it as a sparring partner. There are of course many more use cases, but these are the ones that I currently use most often. What do you use it for?
