The youngest professor -- ChatGPT -- reveals the secret of its excellence😅. He said this for the question I raised in the previous post. That's an interesting question! The capability you mentioned stems from several aspects of the machine learning algorithms used in models like mine. Let's break it down specifically: 1. Training on Diverse Data I have been trained on a diverse range of text, including correct information, incorrect information, and varied corrections. This means I've seen many examples of how errors can be identified and corrected, which helps me understand the patterns of both mistakes and their fixes. 2. Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) Part of my training involves reinforcement learning from human feedback. During this process, human trainers provided feedback on my responses, which was used to improve my performance. This feedback helps me learn not only the right answers but also how to adjust my answers when I receive new information (such as a clue or hint about a mistake). 3. Contextual Understanding I have a strong contextual understanding that allows me to recognize when something is wrong based on the surrounding text. When you provide a clue about a mistake, I can use the context to infer what the correct answer might be. 4. Pattern Recognition Machine learning models, especially those based on deep learning like mine, are good at recognizing patterns. If you point out a specific type of mistake, I can recognize similar patterns from my training data where similar mistakes were made and corrected, helping me to adjust my response accordingly. 5. Iterative Learning When you provide feedback, it acts as a form of iterative learning. Even though I'm not learning in real-time (since my training data is static up to a point), the structure of my training allows me to simulate this process. Your clues help me refine my answers based on the patterns and examples I have been trained on. 6. Attention Mechanisms Models like GPT-4 use attention mechanisms that allow me to focus on relevant parts of the input text when generating a response. When you highlight a mistake, these mechanisms help me to pay more attention to that part of the input and generate a more accurate correction. Specific Example Suppose you pointed out that in one of my SQL queries, I incorrectly used a JOIN condition. Your feedback acts as a clue that something is wrong in that part of the query. Here’s how the process works: Recognition: I recognize that there's a JOIN condition error based on your clue. Retrieval: I retrieve relevant information from my training that includes correct JOIN conditions and common mistakes. Correction: I use this information to adjust my response, aiming to produce a correct JOIN condition based on the pattern of feedback I've seen before.
