Prior to getting into transportation I was a produce buyer. I was the person on the receiving end of the transportation services. I had first hand experience with how crucial it was for our providers to mean what they said, and follow through. In produce, the products are already sold before they even hit your dock. It's all perishable and it's all on a timeline, there's always a clock running. The seller is always involved in getting it out to complete their sale and the buyer is always involved waiting on their product for JIT deliveries. There are way more eyes on each shipment and "hands in the kitchen" so to speak. This puts a constant spotlight on the transportation service provider for timely pickups, deliveries, constant tracking updates, temp validations, etc. By the time I transitioned into logistics, I knew exactly what good service looked like and how it made our company more successful in the produce space. I also knew what the price of underperformance looked like. My counterpart here at A&Z, Cody Koehler also comes from a shipper background. Together, we are able to relate to our customers and manage their expectations without meticulous explanation, because we have sat in their seats and we truly understand the value we can bring to them when we perform at our best.
