Do you ever wonder if the technician working on your LIFE safety equipment is competent? One of our technicians in Brandon recently did our first fire alarm inspection for a new customer. It was obvious as soon as he opened the fire alarm panel that there was a problem. Not only was it highly visual, it was very simple to fix as I’m sure the battery supplier would have made a warranty exchange without any question. Again the fix was easy, but the opportunity for big problems was left in place. Incorrect connects could have led to a complete panel failure. These failures are expensive and in this case avoidable. Fix aside, we’re left with the lingering question of what else was missed? It’s situations like this that reinforce why we spend so much time training our technicians. The more knowledgeable a technician is the better decisions they can make. Education is a part of providing the best service experience in the industry. #Fireprotection #Lifesafety #Insurance #firealarm #Propertymanagement #Mining #Manufacturing

Ensuring that electrical equipment is properly installed according to standards such as 60079-14 is essential for maintaining safety and functionality in hazardous environments. However, even with meticulous initial installation, the integrity of the equipment can be compromised if subsequent maintenance or repairs are not carried out with equal care and precision. In the scenario where a sensor was damaged and the subsequent wiring installation was poorly executed, the consequences can be severe. Apart from the immediate risk of malfunction or failure of the equipment, there is also the heightened risk of hazardous incidents, including fires, explosions, or electrical shocks. These risks are particularly significant in environments where explosive gases, vapors, or combustible dusts are present. Therefore, it cannot be overstated how crucial it is to hire the right candidate for the job when it comes to electrical maintenance and repairs, especially in hazardous areas. The suitable candidate should possess not only the technical skills and knowledge required for the task but also a deep understanding of safety protocols and compliance standards.

"Yeah, [we have a facility alarm system]. It’s a Cadillac, too. It’s a really nice one. It was probably put in a couple of years ago, but nobody’s up to speed trained on it. There should be board operators who say I know exactly what to hit [on the facility alarm system] in every situation to sound which alarm and why. But we didn’t get that piece [completed] yet. Because, like I said, it’s a really nice alarm, but if you don’t know how to use it and you’re not training your employees on it, it’s useless." -- KMCO safety technician (interview) Please take a moment to read the recently issued U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board investigation report on the 2019 KMCO explosion. Share what really pops out at you (in the comments), and let's learn lessons - so we never repeat this kind of tragedy. https://lnkd.in/gKYEP5EY #ProcessSafety #Chemicalengineering #emergencypreparedness #Safetytraining

Are Fire Protection Companies Meeting AS1851-2012 Section H2.2 Requirements? To my connections in the fire protection industry, I have a question regarding AS1851-2012 Section H2.2, specifically about compliance with Section 13 related to Mechanical Services Section 13 Compliance requires: (a) Relevant mechanical services trades qualifications from a recognized technical institution. How many fire protection companies out there have suitably qualified mechanical technicians completing these maintenance tasks? Or are these tasks simply being signed off without recognizing the necessity for a qualified mechanical technician? Additionally: How many fire technicians are genuinely capable of identifying early bearing failure for example. How many companies are informing their clients that they can facilitate the AS1851 requirements while merely ticking and flicking the Section 13 requirements? It's concerning to see some companies are bypassing these critical requirements, potentially compromising the integrity and safety of the systems in place. This should be a wake-up call for the industry to engage mechanical contractors with the appropriate expertise to ensure compliance. What changes are you making or have already implemented to address these requirements? Looking forward to your insights!

One thing a septic system inspector will look at is the condition of the baffles or tees, as well as the walls of the tank for cracks. Other components that will be checked for signs of failure are distribution boxes, drop boxes, and pumps.
