It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the devastating wildfires that have swept through the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma, impacting many landowners, including some of our regenerative ranching partners. We are mobilizing resources from our partner companies, including Range Ward and PowerFlex Supply, to lend a helping hand in the slow process of rebuilding and healing. Grassroots Carbon will also be purchasing and delivering resources to our affected community members, recognizing the immediate needs in the aftermath of such a devastating event. When the time is right and safe, Grassroots Carbon will be there on the ground, offering assistance and support directly. We are dedicated to taking tangible actions to stand by our partners during this challenging period. If you are in need or have suggestions on how we can better assist, please reach out. Grassroots Carbon is a community, and together we can overcome even the toughest challenges. In times of adversity, we remember that the strength of our community shines brightest. Our thoughts and hearts go out to everyone impacted by this tragedy. We stand together, united in the spirit of resilience and solidarity. With heartfelt condolences and unwavering support, The Grassroots Carbon Team

Conserve Utah Valley is a charity organization that is working hard to protect Utah Lake and Great Salt Lake. Their initiative "Grow the Flow Utah" is focused on increasing the water level in Great Salt Lake which we all know has severely diminished. If you live in Utah, recreate in Utah, or are passionate about environmental sustainability. I encourage you to sign up for their newsletter and get more involved with protecting the lakes that create the Greatest Snow on Earth! Two easy ways to help grow the flow in Utah are: 1. Xeriscaping our lawns to match our natural landscape. 2. Changing the perception of green grass lawns to be seasonal (June, July, August). many Utahns water excessively from last frost to first frost (May through October) which wastes a lot of water. https://lnkd.in/gA9rC34F

🌎 Climate change is already impacting Texans' daily lives. As a candidate for Texas House District 56, I'm deeply committed to addressing this urgent issue. Extreme weather events are becoming more severe, threatening our safety and disrupting livelihoods. The health risks are real, especially for vulnerable populations. We need to be prepared to offer support and educate our communities on surviving in extreme heat as our summers get hotter and dryer. Climate change isn't just an environmental concern; it's an economic one too. From agriculture to infrastructure, its impacts are far-reaching and costly. I'm dedicated to implementing sustainable solutions and investing in renewable energy for a more resilient Texas. Join me in this critical fight by donating to my campaign today. https://lnkd.in/gHa5xZcc Together, we can build a sustainable future for generations to come. #ClimateChange #ErinforTexas #TexasStrong 🤝

From wildfires to deadly heat waves to record-breaking droughts, Oregonians are feeling the impacts of our rapidly changing climate. No matter what we look like or where we come from, we all want our families to have the freedom to drink clean water, breathe clean air, and live in healthy communities. We can start today. Join us. This Earth Day, Seeding Justice is launching the Oregon Community Climate Investment Fund. Black, Indigenous and people of color; youth and elders; and people with low incomes, who live in rural areas, or who live with disabilities, have been disproportionately impacted by climate change. That has to stop. We believe the leadership of those who face the steepest barriers will generate the best solutions, so we’re eager to learn what projects our communities think are most urgent. We can’t do this work alone. We’re partnering with foundations, businesses, and individuals to raise the necessary funds and expertise. Join the movement. https://www.occifund.org/

CalPERS and CalSTRS —collectively representing $780 billion and 2.5 million members—must act on their fiduciary duty and responsibly phase out fossil fuel holdings. Good read here from my colleague Lindsay Meiman w/ Stand.earth and Shana DeClercq with Fossil Free California . "California taxpayers shouldn’t have to foot the bill for billions of dollars in damages—wildfires wiping out entire communities, toxic smoke clogging our air, deadly heat waves, record-breaking droughts parching our wells. With this lawsuit, California is taking action to hold big polluters accountable and deliver the justice our people deserve." say Governor Newsom. So why are California's biggest pension staying invested in the same companies that their state is suing? #sb252 #divestment Lena A. Gonzalez, MBA #oilandgas https://lnkd.in/gtMf5gbX

There's an old familiar story in #Phoenix - that "everyone" leaves for the summer. Well, as the 5th largest city in the country now, that's not exactly true. Yet, a ton of people do head for cooler climates during the hot summer months and 2023 was a record-breaking year. Recent reports are showing more than 600 people died from heat related deaths. Earth Gives is working on Arizona-specific efforts on heat, especially around methane reduction, which has 80X the heat trapping power than greenhouse gases. Yet you also can't just stop heat and a warming planet in one spot. We need a holistic response. So that's what Earth Gives is up to all year - building a community of environmental nonprofits across the US to rally donors and doers to get involved in the solutions. We just happen to do it from our home hot state - Arizona. We would be honored if you'd invest in our work today through AZGives.org/earthgives now through April 2nd. Our kids are are relying on us! #LateristooLate #generosity #AZGives #earthgivers 🌎

Ok, so what projects have federal funds made possible to further the #HumanRightToWater? 📍Texas colonias Settled in the 1950s and ‘60s, many colonias along the Texas-Mexico border still don’t have running water or sewer service and instead rely on trucked-in water stored in plastic tanks for bathing and washing, and bottled water for drinking and cooking 🚰🍳 Now a collaboration between local, nonprofit (including Environmental Defense Fund), and state leaders is bringing more than $4 million in funding to address drinking and wastewater needs in rural communities in Presidio County, Texas. Some of the funds will make it possible to dig deep wells that can access groundwater and then pipe it to homes. Our Chief Director for Puerto Rico, Charlotte Gossett Navarro, discussed how local nonprofits have come to function as “community resiliency hubs” in response to extreme natural disasters brought on by climate change like Hurricanes Maria and Fiona, in a recent article in The Chronicle of Philanthropy, These local nonprofits serve as “one-stop-shops” for essential resources that are often made scarce by these weather events such as medication, clean water, and power. This transformation has been made possible in PR, in part by the numerous solar energy with battery systems installed since Hurricane Maria – including through initiatives like Solar Saves Lives, a previous collaboration between Hispanic Federation and partner organizations, to maximize the resilient rooftop solar energy potential of federally qualified health clinics across Puerto Rico, and dozens of other community solar initiatives funded by Hispanic Federation since 2017. “We can’t deploy solar energy quickly enough to make sure that every single person has consistent energy, [but] if you have a place within a reasonable distance that you can access power, that’s a way for us to address these needs in this transitional period.” Click below to read more: https://lnkd.in/gXn8AwEz

In a state where there seems to be no middle ground on water, one entity has proudly planted a flag of neutrality. Self-Help Enterprises’ focus is apolitical and purely practical — getting water to people in need. After decades of “boots on the ground” work for valley residents, Self-Help is also emerging as a major player in the agricultural world as groundwater agencies facing possible state action turn to the nonprofit for help. 👉 Check out this article from SJV Water that highlights SHE's Emergency Response and Beyond! https://lnkd.in/g6aKT7pK

Excellent ideas and energy at the Land Trust Alliance Rally 2023 underway now in Portland, OR. The focus, grit, and creativity of the staff and volunteer leaders of land conservation nonprofits nationwide is inspiring. Land trusts, public/private cooperation, cross-border strategies, landscape-level planning, and climate adaption are some of the powerful approaches that are reshaping conservation in the U.S. today. Increased public funding is making new progress possible; now, private philanthropy needs to keep pace.
