Women in Life Science Denmark is marking International Day of Women & Girls in Science Feb 11th by participating in a podcast from Optimum Strategic Communications on breaking barriers and finding your inner stone age hunter! We have always been teached, that in the stone age, which constitutes 90% of human kindโs time on earth, the man went out hunting โ killing the big animals - and the woman gathered berries and roots and watched the offspring in the camp. This image has shaped the general perception of male and female basic instincts. The man is the hunter and the woman is the gatherer. HOWEVER IT TURNS OUT NOT TO BE TRUE โ letโs have a look at the facts: A wide range of scientific studies world-wide now show that women in the stone age were also hunters. A specific study on 63 hunter-gatherer societies from North- and South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania showed that in 80% of the societies, women were hunting as a normal routine, handling large weapons and killing big animals. The 20th century anthropologists, ethnographers and archaeologists have simply suppressed a traditional gender perspective on the hunter-gatherer societies, assuming that hunter graves contained male skeletons - but it has turned out that up to 1/3 of the skeletons were women! This challenges the general perception of basic male and female instincts and the distinct gender roles that we have been teached during our upbringing. THE TRUTH IS THAT WOMEN HAVE BEEN HUNTERS ALL ALONG! WE HAVE THE POWER WE HAVE THE COURAGE and WE HAVE THE INSTINCTS TO GO OUT IN THE FIELD AND WIN THE BATTLE So dear women and girls โ we just want to encourage you to find your inner stone age hunter โ and go out there and win the battle, get the job or education that you want or fight for achieving the goals that you have set in the job or study that you already have. But I'm also passionate about creating change and seeing more women thrive in science and technology. This webinar, featuring author Lisa Munoz, offers valuable insights and strategies to help us navigate these challenges and achieve true equity in STEM. โจThis is about more than just us. On this World's Women's Day, I would like to raise two aspects within the Healthcare industry that are too often neglected โ women's health, and women's roles in the healthcare systems. While the first is gaining more and more attention, and rightfully so, the world is still not adequately addressing the latter. For women working in the healthcare sector, improvement has been regrettably slow; The majority of them are working as nurses, and while the number of women doctors increase โ they are still fighting a glass-ceiling with their aspirations to take on leadership roles, such as Heads of Department, Hospital Managers, or CEO's in healthcare companies and more; On this World's Women's Day 2024, I stand alongside women in the healthcare industry, and support them as we all work together towards narrowing the gender-gap between men and women in the healthcare world. PS. Just to share my personal story: At the age of 18y, I really wanted to become a doctor but didn't go to medical school as I thought I was not smart enough. Stigma and fear of entering this world, still dominated by men, somehow upheld me. No one was there to tell me wrong and to support me persuing my dream. Many years after, and still passionate about healthcare, I founded Medix Global, a healthcare management company delivering quality health services to millions of people worldwide. So every year on International Women's day, I strongly remind myself and others, the importance of promoting equal opportunities for women in our sector and praise all women who have dared and made it successfully. You lead by example and promote this much needed societal change! May our joint efforts be fruitful and meaningful for many women! #healthcare #womenhealth #internationalwomensday2024 #leadership #genderequality #womenempoweringwomen

โ ๐ฉ๐ฌ ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ช๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฎ: ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ป๐ป๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฉ๐ฌ โ Itโs easy to forget that change takes time... However Drugmakers and industry organizations have launched a wave of #๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐จ๐๐ฉ๐ฎ, #๐๐ฆ๐ช๐๐ฉ๐ฎ ๐๐ฃ๐ #๐๐ฃ๐๐ก๐ช๐จ๐๐ค๐ฃ efforts over the last decade, but in some respects, it seems like the needle has barely budged. Gender equality in #biotech has been increasingly discussed over the last few years. A significant amount of it has been positive: today we see a strong gender balance in the #workplace in many parts of the developed world, with about 40โ50% of employees at #biotech companies being women in the UK, United States and Europe. Still, the numbers show that this percentage drops sharply when we start looking at C-suite. In a report from 2020, only one in four US #startups had a female founder, 40% ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐๐ฃ๐ฉ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฉ ๐ก๐๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐ค๐ฃ๐ ๐ฌ๐ค๐ข๐๐ฃ ๐ค๐ฃ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ค๐๐ง๐ ๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ฉ๐ค๐ง๐จ ๐๐ฃ๐ 42% ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฉ ๐ก๐๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐ค๐ฃ๐ ๐ฌ๐ค๐ข๐๐ฃ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐ญ๐๐๐ช๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฅ๐ค๐จ๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ. At the same time, weโve seen the statistics that show that companies that score high in gender #diversity on executive teams are ๐ฎ๐ฑ% ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐น๐ถ๐ธ๐ฒ๐น๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ฒ-๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐, and compared to individual decision makers, teams that are gender-diverse are better at making business decisions 73% of the time, versus 58% for teams that are all-male. The woman-to-woman network is huge and #influential. Women-led companies are more likely to have other women on their boards. Equally, women-led #investment teams tend to invest in a higher percentage of female #entrepreneurs. Women in biotech are passionate โ certainly about their jobs, but also about helping other women, and will go out of their way to do so. A recent article from Endpoints News Interviewed Michelle Longmire & 20 other outstanding Women in Biopharma. "My experience is that when you see someone you subconsciously identify with, your mind frame of โI can do thisโ suddenly becomes very real. When I was young, there were not many women #physicians , and now women make up more than 50%.The more that we really change the top โ the CEOs, the founders, the executive team โ the more that women will see they can do that. Itโs a checkmark in your mind, where you relate to that person in a very significant way." - Michelle Longmire As we can see, there is progress, but more needs to be done. Both from #recruiters and companies alike. Evidence shows productivity and equity leaps when further #DEI is established within business. The future is bright for women in biopharma. Below is an incredible article on inspiring Women in Biopharma & their thoughts. Would love to know yours!
