In a couple weeks, I'm presenting "Turning Career Aspirations into Meaningful Retention Conversations" at the #ATD24 Conference in New Orleans. It's from our Leadership-in-a-Box® program "Managing Your Career." See, what happens in most organizations is when a person wants a promotion, they look at job postings from hundreds of other companies, apply to several and accept an outside offer. You just lost a leader. It's painful and expensive. What we'd like is for both the organization and each individual to have collaborative and constructive ONGOING conversations about their future aspirations. This way each organization has "first dibs" on retaining their own workforce. And each person develops realistic expectations about what is possible and probable in each role. Win-Win.
