#DidYouKnow: About one in four phishing attacks contain a QR code linked to malicious content. Quishing — a phishing tactic that uses a QR code to redirect you to a fake website or fake app — is on the rise. QR code fraud can take on many forms and are used more often now in emails, online ads, and on social media. With the holiday shopping season upon us, it is a time for great deals and some of the lowest prices of the year. But some of those deals may be too good to be true. Phishing scams happen year-round, but they tend to spike around holidays, especially those holidays that involve shopping. The next big shopping holiday is Mother's Day. Phishing emails often claim to contain deals or sales for the target to take advantage of but actually contain links to phishing sites and can even lead to more scam attempts. Buyer beware. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Check all links and see where they lead before you click.

Beware of QR Code Phishing Scams The popularity of the QR code has grown rapidly. These Tetris-like black and white boxes are appearing on merchandise, advertising, and even in television programs. While QR codes provide a lot of ease and efficiency for businesses to advertise their products or services, they also present risks for consumers and a new avenue for scammers. A QR code in an email can lead to a phishing scam rather than a product website or advertisement. Business owners should educate their employees about QR code phishing scams and how to avoid them. https://hubs.la/Q02fjzCw0
