Guest editors Andrew Karvonen & Tom Hargreaves identify key emerging themes in their editorial: • societal exclusion is often commonplace in datafication • local geographies and histories can provide a strong corrective to the universalising quantitative abstractions of most datafication processes. For years I've been frustrated that we, as engagement professionals, ask community members to share their valuable time and expertise with us, and yet those people with lived expertise who are providing that feedback are often the only people in those rooms who are not being paid to be there. I've heard this said before "our disability is our degree" and therefore we should be compensated for our expertise.
