๐ Happy Birthday, General Robert E. Lee! ๐ Youโre known for saying, โAbandon your animosities and make your sons Americans!โ Today, on January 19th, we celebrate the birth of an influential figure in American history. General Lee's contributions have left a lasting impact on the USA, and it's important to reflect on the significance of his role. General Lee played a crucial part during the American Civil War, leading the Confederate Army. While opinions about his actions may differ, let's focus on the broader concept of societal synchrony. Societal synchrony involves working together towards a harmonious and inclusive society. General Lee's story reminds us of the importance of empathy, dialogue, and understanding in resolving conflicts and bridging gaps between different communities. It's essential to recognize that our understanding of societal harmony has evolved over time. Today, we strive for a society that values equality, diversity, and justice for all individuals, regardless of their background. That was all supported by General Leeโs actions. As we commemorate General Lee's birthday, let's take this moment to learn from history. By embracing empathy, understanding, and open-mindedness, we can contribute to creating a society where everyone feels respected and valued. Remember, we all have the power to shape the future. Together, let's work towards building a world where societal synchrony is achieved through compassion, respect, and equality for all. ๐๐ #RobertELee #SocietalSynchrony #LearnFromHistory home.mutualprosperity.com

The Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863 marked a crucial moment in American history, where the nation was divided in a war with itself. It was also the era of the industrial revolution, the northern states, governed by Republican leaders, attracted millions of legal immigrants seeking economic opportunities, safe communities, freedom, and quality education for their children. Black Americans also migrated to the North, in what is known as the first Great Migration, to escape the harsh treatment in the South and pursue the same opportunities as other people. Fast forward 161 years later, the country is involved in a cultural war, with Republicans now governing the former Confederate southern states. Yet, the motivations that drive people to uproot their families and their businesses remain the same - good governance that leads to economic prosperity, safe communities, personal liberties and quality education for their children. The echoes of history remind us of the enduring values that continue to shape our nation today. Leadership matter! See WSJ article - Blue State wealth exodus (https://lnkd.in/gGnk65uE)

Robert F. Smith says๐#more #to #be #done #beyond advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion. We #must: โ #broaden our #focus to include #economic #justice โ and we can do this by providing #opportunities for #prosperity and #investing in the infinite #potential of #future #generations. โ #build the #economic #infrastructure needed to #bridge the #racialwealthgap. โ #invest in #education, #digital #technology and the #talent #pipeline to help close opportunity gaps that affect #Black #Americans, including the #generationalwealthgap.
Black Americans continue to break significant barriers in our society but still endure systemic obstacles that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other leaders involved in the Civil Rights Movement were devoted to fighting against. Despite these hindrances, Black Americans persevere, remain steadfast and work to shape the future of this country. Yet, there remains a struggle for relevance, a sense of belonging and ownership of this nation. I stood before a crowd at the 60th Anniversary of the #MarchOnWashington for Jobs and Freedom to address the varied courses of action we can take to achieve equality. It goes beyond advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion. We must broaden our focus to include economic justice โ and we can do this by providing opportunities for prosperity and investing in the infinite potential of future generations. We must build the economic infrastructure needed to bridge the #racialwealthgap. And it is up to us to invest in #education, digital #technology and the talent pipeline to help close opportunity gaps that affect Black Americans, including the #generationalwealthgap. Presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, currently serving as the governor of Florida, recently stated that some African Americans might have obtained beneficial skills such as blacksmithing through their experiences of slavery. However, it's critical to understand that slavery in the U.S. was not a vocational school or an apprenticeship program where individuals learned valuable trades like blacksmithing. Rather, it was a brutal system that commodified people, stripping them of all rights and human dignity. The path to achieving genuine liberty and justice for all involves confronting our national history with honesty and transparency. Consider this - if we were to fully and truthfully integrate every aspect of our past into our understanding of U.S. history, there would be no need for separate entities like 'Black History'. U.S. history should encompass the full spectrum of our past, encapsulating both the commendable and the reprehensible aspects of all cultures - Black, Native American, Chinese, Asian, Indian, and more. We should neither fear nor feel embarrassed to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of our history. It is through this understanding and acceptance of our past that we can initiate healing, and subsequently construct a United States of America that truly epitomizes liberty and justice for all. Hoping and praying for a united, healed America.โค๏ธ๐๐ฝ #slavery #rondesantis #presidentialcandidate #news #topnewsstories #inthenews #America #justice #civilliberties

#politics #unitedstates If protesting against white racism - the original sin of American founding not because of black slavery as The New York Timesโ 1619 project and Critical Race Theory (CRT) argue but because of the Indian Removal Laws of Andrew Jackson which resulted in the genocide of native Americans - is MLK Jrโs communism and socialism, then one can argue that the Declaration of Independence of 1776, which wrote in the founding values of United States of America, is communism. We all know 1776 is not communism. Why? Because communism and socialism came more than a century after 1776, not until 1917 in practice after the Russian October Revolution, which was the communist, authoritarian mirror of the democratic American Revolution by overturning a monarchy to found a republic. Both the United States and the former Soviet Union were always capitalist, because capitalism is about machines and automation, superseding agrarian feudalism, built on the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain which had begun in the 18th century. The distinction between the two systems is America is a democracy and the former Soviet Union was an authoritarian state. Racism is not about race. Race is a part of our identity, is an important part of who we are, and none of us need to be ashamed or feel superior about our race, pure bred or mixed. This is what 1776 was about. Racism is about using race as power to deprive someone not of your race of something they have or legitimately deserve. This was what the originally ratified Constitution in 1787 did to native and black Americans by depriving them of their Americanhood by law, hinging its hopes on the founding American values in the Declaration to eventually achieve the American Dream, not of great wealth by capitalism but of social equality and integration of all of the worldโs races by social activism by the deprived who were not included in the original constitution. America was economically a developing country until the end of World War I in 1918. Any race can be racist. All races, not only whites, are racist when they acquire the power to be racist. Only the four men on Mount Rushmore had this insight that should guide all the rest of American presidents. Washington who had declared the First Thanksgiving in gratitude to both God and the natives and emancipated his slaves in his will despite being a Virginia plantation slave owner. Jefferson, another Virginia plantation owner, took native help to survey America from coast to coast and wondered aloud why his black slaves could not be like the white Englishmen of the American colonies who had emancipated themselves from the British rule of fellow white men. Lincoln who addressed America at Gettysburg invoking Americaโs founding values to hold the Union together. And Teddy Roosevelt who invited Booker T. Washington to the White House. That American institutions are racist, is therefore, not a surprise, and they need not be defended.

Cultural Economist helping leaders build a common ground of understanding and collaboration on race and economic equity
I was born in 1962. This is America in my lifetime. Many will argue times have changed. I ask how is change measured? When did perceived changes occur? What caused those perceived changes to occur? What is the condition of race relations today? How do we measure progress? In 1960: Nearly all of America's public schools were racially segregated, with poor children of color ubiquitously served by the worst quality schools in the world's richest nation. Today: Nearly all of America's public schools are racially segregated, with poor children of color ubiquitously served by the worst quality schools in the world's richest nation. In 1960: The Black-White homeownership gap was 26%. Today: The Black-White homeownership gap is 30% In 1960: Banking discriminatory practices were the norm; access to capital for Black Americans was extremely difficult. Today: Banking discriminatory practices are the norm. Citibank published a report declaring that systemic racism in the financial sector has cost the nation $16T in just the past 20 years. The federal government has fined banks more than $243B for discriminatory practices over the past 20 years. 1960: There were fewer than 1 million Black-owned businesses in the U.S., all of which combined produced LESS than 1% of the nation's GDP. Today: There are more than 3 million Black-owned businesses in the U.S., all of which produce LESS than 1% of the nation's GDP. Despite the exponential increase in ACTIVITY, the PRODUCTIVITY of Black-owned businesses continues to lag. Black EMPLOYER firms represent a mere 2% of the total EMPLOYER landscape in America (80% of which are White-owned/controlled companies) The effort in Black America continues to be strong. The talent continues to be strong. The innovation and creativity continues to be strong. And the opposition to Black progress continues to be strong. So, what needs to change? Do Black people need to work harder or do systemic structures that were built on a foundation of white supremacy need to change? After the Civil War, White "Radicals" in Congress changed the laws 8 times, including 3 changes of the Constitution. They established a brand new federal agency (Freedmen's Bureau) and prioritized the economic and political empowerment of Black people for the first time (and only time) in US history. The temporary conditions they provided enabled Black people to build 200 entire towns in the first 20 years after the war. They also accelerated the building of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), 100+ that still stand today. When White people remove the barriers they created to Black progress, then we see rapid progress of which Black Americans are capable. When White Americans blame Black people for lagging under conditions White supremacists established to benefit themselves and their descendants, we see generations of trauma, sustained high stress levels & adverse health impact.
