Over the summer, our organization filed federal complaints against Citizens Financial Group, Sallie Mae, Scholarship America, and Wells Fargo due to their misleading and deceptive advertisements and business practices regarding scholarships and scholarship displacement. Following receipt of our Consumer Financial Protection Bureau complaint, Citizens Financial Group modified their College Raptor scholarship website to acknowledge scholarship award displacement. While this adjustment is a step forward, it's only the beginning. Our goal is to halt student lending companies' acquisitions of scholarship programs and websites because they are using scholarship displacement practices to lure students into acquiring private loans. Check out this article about Vanderbilt's progressive lending strategy to recent college grads to power their future...link is in the comments.
Vanderbilt Credit Union recently rolled out a pilot program that will lend graduates up to $160,000 if they have a job offer sheet in hand. Pathways Financial Credit Union and others are also sometimes willing to take an offer sheet as proof of income as credit unions try to keep young members in the fold. https://lnkd.in/ewPNSE7g
