New Zealand - A vineyard to vie with nature: Far away, alone at the end of the world, an archipelago lies between the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean: New Zealand. For 40 years, on the South Island, in the major wine-growing region of Marlborough, new pioneers have pulled off the daring gamble of growing vines. With nearly 17,000 hectares it is the largest wine-growing region in the country. Making wine in New Zealand means taking on a nature that is untamed and one that humans find hard to rival. And yet they succeed despite the problems of climate, the earthquakes and the ever-invading wild life.

Mogitende is a local language word that means a place with plenty of water. The place is in one of the villages of Serengeti. Mogtende holds past cultural, traditional, and ecological untold stories. These stories haven't been passed down through generations, unweaving a rich tapestry of history and heritage. The significance of Mogitende goes beyond its physical abundance of water; it represents a deep connection to the land and its people. As one explores this wetland, they are transported back in time, witnessing the customs and rituals that have shaped the community's identity for centuries. In Mogitende, there is a unique, colourful soil that was used in traditional circumcision rituals. In the past, when this place was filled with dense trees, getting here was for the strong and courageous. Only a few men would get here. These men could get brides because of this soil. The ecological stories also offer a glimpse into the delicate balance between humans and nature, highlighting the importance of conservation and sustainable practices. To be connected and know the stories of this place, you need a native that has been here for over four decades. The situation isn't the same today. #conservation #localcommunities #water

🌿 **Embracing the Wild: A Lesson from Rural Portugal** 🌿 In the remote Aldeia de Xisto (schist village) of Lousã, Portugal, something remarkable is happening. Meet Maria and João, a couple who have forged an extraordinary bond with an unexpected group of locals – wild boars. 🐗 For years, they have been quietly providing food for these once-feral creatures. What started as a simple act of kindness has evolved into something truly extraordinary. These wild boars now come to Maria and João like old friends, their once-wary nature transformed into a trust that's heartwarming to witness. 🌱 This story made me reflect on our relationship with nature. Often, we perceive it as something to conquer, control, or even subdue. But Maria and João's tale reminds us of the profound beauty that emerges when we work with nature, rather than against it. 🌍 In our increasingly urbanized world, it's easy to forget the harmony that exists in the natural world. The animals, the plants, the landscapes – they are not something separate from us. They are a part of us, and we are a part of them. When we extend a hand of kindness, nature responds in kind. 🌟 So, let this be a reminder that working with nature can lead to the most astonishing connections and transformations. As we strive to make a positive impact in our communities and our world, perhaps the most powerful change can start with a simple act of compassion towards the environment and its inhabitants. 🤝 Let's embrace the wild, learn from it, and build a more harmonious world together. #Nature #Conservation #Harmony #Wildlife #Portugal

Invaluable experience! Recently, my team and I have encountered a friendly juvenile Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) in Pulau Ketam, Selangor. The species also known as the red-backed sea-eagle. It is the famous and iconic gigantic bird statue of Langkawi, Kedah. He followed us and made us felt safe and guarded, especially when exploring thick mangrove forest. But in fact, we knew he just want some food. According to locals, some eagle already been tamed by folks. As reward, we gave him crabs and snail for snacking. It was invaluable experience to hand-feed an eagle in close-range! Trivia: 1) Langkawi is named after the Brahminy kite. 2) Young Brahminy kites like to play; they may drop leaves and try to catch them in the air. 3) The species is classified as "Least Concern" (LC) on the IUCN Red List but its numbers are decreasing.
