#Stormwater capture and use (SCU) offers a wide range of benefits, but there is a critical need for guidance on appropriate risk-based treatment levels for non-potable and potable uses to ensure projects protect #publichealth . . . 📚 JUST PUBLISHED: bit.ly/3Cf1Qpa 📚 Project 5034 synthesized existing research on stormwater microbial quality and treatment processes to develop a Stormwater Use Roadmap that provides pragmatic guidance for design and operation of SCU systems. The guidance addresses selection of appropriate log reduction targets based on quality of stormwater and intended end use, methodologies for monitoring stormwater microbial quality, and approaches for continuous monitoring of operational systems to ensure safe #water is reliably delivered for utilities and municipalities. 🌦 Learn More: bit.ly/3Cf1Qpa 🌦 Principal Investigators: Sybil Sharvelle (Colorado State University); Amos Branch (Carollo Engineers, Inc) Project Team: Jumana Alja'fari, Sarah Millonig (Colorado State University); Jim Rasmus (Carollo Engineers, Inc. / STANTEC, Inc.) Who here has heard about phytoremediation? I was surprised to see how few hands went up in the room. These technology-sharing conferences are crucial for staying updated on the latest advances and emerging contaminants in the remediation industry. They're especially important for nature-based solution providers, who are a small but growing part of this field. As a plant scientist, I love seeing the audience's reactions when they learn about the potential of plants to clean our environment with low costs and minimal carbon footprint. However, I also find it daunting to field challenging questions from geologists, whose perspectives I'm still learning to understand. In my latest presentation, I pushed myself to cover technical slides I had previously avoided, fearing questions outside my expertise. The most important lesson I've learned from presenting at conferences is that it's okay not to know all the answers—there's always more to learn. If you haven't attended the AIPG Michigan Environmental Risk Management Workshop, I highly recommend it. It's two full days of learning with great people, beautiful views, and a summer camp vibe. #Michigan #AIPG #phytoremediation #sustainableremediation American Institute of Professional Geologists
