To my mind, cutting their losses was a reasonable Army decision. Both FARA and FLRAA have appeared for years like solutions in search of problems. Hopefully this decision is a forerunner to a pragmatic, economic pivot towards maximizing the utility of legacy systems and further integrating UAVs into combat support missions. #army #procurement #defenseindustry
In a shocking development, Army leaders told reporters yesterday they are canceling the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) program. The course change will alter long-range strategic aviation plans for the Army since FARA and its associated program elements were a years-long acquisition priority for the service. #army #procurement #govexec #FARA #sikorsky #textron #lockheedmartin https://lnkd.in/getMABS9

Defense subcontractors often face challenges when dealing with major weapons firms. The government typically engages large prime contractors such as Lockheed Martin and Raytheon for military projects, sidelining smaller businesses. Despite this, prime contractors outsource a significant portion—between 60 and 70 percent—of Pentagon contract work. While the government offers favorable payment terms and contract financing to prime contractors, there's limited oversight regarding how these primes treat their subcontractors, especially small businesses. In a notable turn, Anduril, a seven-year-old startup, has secured a major US Air Force contract, beating out established defense giants like Boeing, Lockheed, and Northrop Grumman. Founder Palmer Luckey expressed the significance of this victory, emphasizing its immense importance via Twitter. #defenseindustry #contracting #defense #defence #USgovernment #USAF #subcontracting CBRNE ATLANTIC BRIDGE (CAB) #contracts #smallbusiness #technology #AI Anduril Industries #cbrn #cbrne #robotics

Today’s #ArmyMadSci blog post is the first in a series of posts exploring the Twenty-first century’s battlespace, how our pacing threat China is responding to it, and what the U.S. Army can do to prepare our Warfighters to fight and win decisively in it. As proclaimed Mad Scientist COL Scott Shaw, former Commander, U.S. Army Asymmetric Warfare Group, observed previously on this blog site, “The use of #UAS for reconnaissance and targeting will increase. As these systems proliferate, they will lower the ‘entry fee’ into combined arms operations, granting even non-state actors a localized air force and creating a general environment of fear.” Since that conversation, Russia launched its “Special Military Operation,” embroiling Ukraine in an enduring Large Scale Combat Operation where UAS have played an outsized role. Have you ever seen G-Forces (Gravitational Forces) applied to a human body?! The application of this test to military fighters was common because they may encounter these types of forces while performing hard maneuvers at high speed. Will UAVs Replace Fighter Jets in the Future of Military Aviation? #uav #militaryaviation #gforce #Gravitationalforces #moderntechnology

Thanks to Lee Ritholtz and Adrian Pope for the awesome opportunity to join Primordial Labs and continue serving the warfighter! As a former Marine infantry officer, I was always frustrated with how we continually overloaded our Marines with cumbersome and heavy tech that was clumsy, at best, to deploy on the move or in high-stress situations. This was especially true for sUAS. In order to fully realize the the potential of human-machine teaming, operators must be able to intuitively incorporate unmanned systems into their maneuver formations. They must be able to command and control those systems like they would their human teammates – by voice. Anura, our tactical #AI assistant, allows our warfighters to do just that - to command and control unmanned systems via voice commands. Anura is currently deployed on a variety of UAS platforms already leveraged by USSOCOM, but is built to be platform-agnostic and scalable across domains. If you are working on or with unmanned systems (UAS, UGV, USV, UUV), I would love to connect and learn more about your problem set! #defensetech #humanmachineinterface #mannedunmannedteaming

Tactical advances Defence applications are arguably the longest running use cases for uncrewed systems, stretching back to World War I with the UK’s radio- controlled Aerial Target and the Kettering Bug aerial torpedo developed by the US. These days, more and more defence services are devising ways to substitute crewed missions for uncrewed ones to help keep personnel far from harm, and bolster an armed force’s effective fighting power. And just as those forces develop new tactics and strategies, so too must engineers of defence-focused uncrewed systems develop new vehicle designs, capabilities and payloads so that uncrewed systems can tackle the niche requirements of air forces, navies and ground forces.
