IAI and 2Excel Aviation Ltd have signed an agreement to forge ahead in developing the future use of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) in UK airspace. Successful in-person and virtual demonstrations of the Heron to both UK Government and civil observers, flying out of West Wales Airport in Aberporth, Wales, proved that IAI and 2Excel could operate a highly-capable Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) platform in the UK within the constraints of the regulatory environment. The strengthening and enhancing of IAI's relationship with 2Excel Aviation will enable both companies to maximize the potential synergy between their respective manned and unmanned capabilities, coupled with unsurpassed customer service, to provide superior and wide-ranging solutions for the UK’s Maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) requirements and challenges.

In our latest conference paper presented in RAST2023 Recent Advances in Air and Space Technologies, June 7-9, Istanbul, Türkiye, we tackle the dynamic intricacies of helicopter gun turret systems. By employing an imaginary robotic model approach, we’ve implemented a promising adaptive backstepping control strategy that promises enhanced stability, precision, and defense efficacy. 🔍 Key Takeaways: Utilized a two-degree-of-freedom manipulator dynamics to simulate the gun turret system. The results? Effective control of weapon pointing systems. Demonstrated superior system stability and disturbance robustness, essential against firing and operational deviations. Simulation outcomes? Rapid convergence, minimal steady-state error, and improved transient responses - all thanks to the adaptive feedback law. Addressed comprehensive challenges from system modeling, and parameter updates to the design and real-time application of adaptive backstepping turret controllers under disturbances. Achieved desired trajectory angles with negligible steady-state errors even under challenging gun-barrel disturbances. Plus, we ensured the control system’s settling time remained under the half-second mark.
