I recently spoke with ShippingWatch about DP World’s investments in Asia Pacific (APAC) and the important role that the region plays within our global expansion strategy. Here are the main takeaways from the interview:   1. APAC presents unparalleled opportunity for us as we expand our end-to-end logistics capabilities. It is the largest and fastest-growing region for outsourced logistics, projected to account for 40% of global revenues in contract logistics services by 2027. It is also the fastest-growing region in the world in terms of both exports and imports this year. 2. Our core business in ports and terminals is the foundation of our growth. To date, we have ports and terminals in 17 locations across APAC, and we continue to innovate our offering in this space. At the same time, we are integrating our ports and terminals with our growing logistics network, helping to improve connectivity and enabling the seamless flow of trade in the region. 3. All eyes are on Indonesia, with local partnerships critical to unlocking growth in the market. For example, in tandem with the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) and Indonesian government-owned port operator Pelindo, we started operating Belawan New Container Terminal in Sumatra, with the aim to increase its capacity to 1.4 million containers annually. Meanwhile, through a strategic partnership with Maspion Group, we broke ground on a new container terminal in Gresik, which will strengthen East Java’s position as a trade gateway connecting Indonesian enterprises with customers in the region and around the world. Between 2012 and 2023, DP World invested over US$10 billion in the global logistics sector. The inaugural Transport Logistic South East Asia (tlcSEA) 2023 Malaysia Forum and Roadshow was held recently at the Nexus Convention Centre in Bangsar South. Some of the important topics discussed were the potential of Southeast Asia as the upcoming worldwide hub and Malaysia as a pivotal logistics centre. It's my 3rd time when I can join the biggest event of Vietnam Seaport system, listen and study more about the port equipments and operation. ⚓ The Vietnam Seaports Association 2023 Annual Meeting - in Vung Tau on September 20-21, 2023, Enhancing Collaboration for Sustainable Development ⚓ More than 500 participants joined the Meeting from 84 member ports and the Government is a forum for assessing opportunities and challenges, exchange experiences, opinions on key issues such as port master planning, investment, public private partnership in port development in general, and port management, operations, safety, security, ITC systems, etc. in particular. The Malaysian government is working on a plan to improve the competitiveness of the country's main ports, Port Klang and Port of Tanjung Pelepas. Here's a breakdown of the strategy: #Goals: • Increase capacity of the ports to handle more cargo. • Improve efficiency and productivity to move cargo faster. • Become "low-carbon green ports" which likely means reducing their environmental impact. #Reasoning: • This plan is likely a response to increased competition in the region, possibly from the land bridge project Thailand is building. • An improved port system would benefit the Malaysian economy by: - Attracting more ships and cargo - Speeding up the movement of goods Possible future #collaboration: • Malaysia's Transport Minister expressed interest in working with Thailand on this project. • This could involve: - Sharing expertise on port development. - Connecting Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link to Thailand's railway network. - This cooperation could benefit both countries economically. Current #Stage: This is still in the planning stages. There are no details yet on specific investments or involvement of Malaysian companies.

14-15 July: Attending the 2023 Asia-Pacific Regional Annual Meeting of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) in Da Nang, Vietnam. Hosted by the Viet Nam Logistics Business Association (VLA), the event attracted nearly 300 international logistics service providers from 50 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, and some businesses interested in seeking cooperation opportunities in this field. With a special location, Viet Nam is becoming an attractive destination for logistics activities in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the World Bank Report published in 2023, Viet Nam ranks 43rd among 160 countries and territories in logistics performance index (LPI), and among the top 5 ASEAN countries with the annual growth rate of the logistics market in the country of 14-16%.

The Asean Express, a new international freight train service connecting Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and China, has been launched by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to improve trade connectivity between the nations. The service will connect new trade routes and multiple inland ports across the region, including the Kontena Nasional Inland Clearance Depot (KNICD) in Selangor, Perlis Inland Port, Thailand's Latkrabang Inland Port and the Thanaleng Dry Port in Laos, all of which are pivotal trade hubs. It can reduce the transit time of goods between the nations, with the transit time from KNICD to Chongqing, China, expected to take only nine days compared with 14 to 21 days by sea.

I am glad to be sharing the vision for coastal logistics at the IMPA Singapore Conference this week on how the ship supplies sector would be transforming in the coming years leveraging on digitalization and decarbonisation. We are already seeing the first few full-electric harbourcraft launched and deployed in the Port of Singapore - the Penguin passenger ferry in April this year and the Yinson Greentech marinEV Hydromover this week. Coupled with the increased use of maritime drones for shore-ship deliveries and advanced algorithms to optimize the deployment of these lighter crafts in our waters, we would be seeing a highly productive ship supply operations with low carbon emissions to support the cargo ships calling at our port. Digitalization of ship supply delivery documentation and processes would further the transparency and efficiency of these activities and operations. The transformation of the ship supply sector would also provide for a more attractive, productive and conducive working environment for many of the job roles in the ship supply value chain. Port of Lobito in Angola has a strategic importance to the vision for cross-Africa transport connectivity so important to the land-locked countries east of Angola. Find out more information searching for the "Lobito Corridor" and you will understand how making the port efficient at handling ships will play an important role in facilitating smoother flow of goods inland. The IMO mandate for all ports worldwide to implement a Single Maritime Window from January 2024 is an important part of solving the efficiency puzzle. This is not the Customs Single Window, another project that will have to happen in Lobito for efficient serving of Angola and multiple countries beyond it. But for port call management, it is great that Lobito got a helping hand from Singapore's port authority Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
