Today I had to up my game. I usually speak to our executive committee on topics like M&A or macro cycles. But today, Karen Vorraa and Jesica Altamirano had invited me along for their session on diversity and inclusion. I got to share some reflections from my role as a sponsor for Pride Makers, our employee-led LGBTQ+ community. We often tell people not to take business personally. But that’s impossible, of course. Do you feel safe to be who you are, also at work? Doesn’t get more personal than that. Diversity and inclusion are at the core about who we are. Do we value diversity? Do we promote inclusion? It’s about what kind of company, and what kind of leaders we want to be. We get some things right in Equinor. But we all agreed we can do more. This is the #2 of 3 events that I was supporting. The last 2 weeks were a whirlwind that anchored strongly on diversity and inclusivity. As a professional in sustainability, I support all the pillars in ESG. The 3 events led me to think harder on the importance of “S” (social) & “G”(governance) and how it can impact future outcomes. (GLSEN, 2021). 81.9% reported verbal harassment 38.3% reported physical harassment 55.2% reported online/electronic harassment At work 43% of LGBT individuals have experienced workplace discrimination 17% being fired because of their sexual or gender identity 28% receiving a negative performance evaluation based on LGBT identity status, 41% experiencing abuse or vandalism based on their LGBT identity 30% of straight employees also report witnessing discrimination and harassment against their LGBT coworker We have improved but we can definitely do better.

‘Go Woke, Go Broke’ 👎 'EDI is DEAD' 💀 Not according to the recent report from Open For Business. Their Investor guide to LGBTQ+ Inclusion shows that the top 25 corporations in LGBTQ+ transparency were 2.3 times more profitable than the bottom 25.🤑 Yes, you read that correctly - two point three times MORE PROFITABLE. With the global LGBTQ+ community gaining and wielding considerable consumer spending power, investors are taking notice and reevaluating their strategies. But that's not all! A whopping 92% of the largest American, British, German, and Australian public companies surveyed have recognised the undeniable importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion. 🌍🤝 They consider it a "material issue" for their business, meaning that they understand poor performance on EDI could jeopardise their long-term success and social license to operate. Said it before, I'll say it again... DE & I works, despite what "Supervillain X" says. Open For Business's research on the largest companies in the UK, US, Germany, and Australia has revealed a significant link between LGBTQ+ inclusion and corporate success! I went through the report and it's shown that businesses with high LGBTQ+ transparency scores are showing stronger financial performance and are attracting the best talent.
