To close out the week, here are four reasons why I’m looking ahead positively: 1. How can we keep up with the technological progress in Asia-Pacific? We have to make an effort, but we can! To achieve this, we need a sustainable growth agenda for Germany. 2. What role does Deutsche Bank play in Germany? A role in the middle of the society - which we naturally want to and have to fill. 3. What do our customers in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East & Africa) expect from Deutsche Bank? They expect a Global Hausbank that accompanies them along their supply and value chain - for this, we have the right product range and, above all, the necessary global network. 4. How is it possible to balance work and family life at Deutsche Bank? It only works if everyone - and above all we as a bank and our managers - are aware of our responsibility. These are four questions I discussed with 18 directors of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt this week. Today, we are celebrating 50 years of Deutsche Bank in Australia. 🌏🥳 On 29 August 1973, Deutsche Bank opened a representative office in Sydney. At the opening of the office, Alfred Herrhausen, Management Board member, responsible for the region, struck a positive note about the opportunities for trade and capital flows between the Pacific region and Europe. Not long after, the region became increasingly important for international capital markets at this time. And so we could drive significant business forward in Australia over the next few years such as: ☑️ Leading a bond issued by the Commonwealth of Australia for 300 million US dollars in 1976. ☑️ Acquiring a 50 per cent share of the Sydney-based firm Bain & Company Ltd., one of the leading investment banks in Australia, 1989. ☑️ Acquiring the UK-based merchant bank Morgan Grenfell in the same year. Today, Deutsche Bank Australia has over 300 staff, located across Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Glenn Morgan, Australia CEO says: “Deutsche Bank’s 50-year legacy in Australia showcases a journey of transformation. Deutsche Bank plans to double its management of assets for affluent families in Southeast Asia and the Middle East over the next five years, leveraging the growing connections between ultra-wealthy families in both regions, says Claudio de Sanctis, the bank's global head of private banking. Prosperous families in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are increasingly interested in investing in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, while vice versa, according to de Sanctis. The bank has heavily invested in these regions, particularly through hiring from Credit Suisse. "This is where we invested heavily," de Sanctis notes, highlighting the strategic importance of Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The bank's private bank loans total €261 billion as of March 31, affirming its position as a leading player, particularly in complex lending deals for ultra-rich clients in Asia. Deutsche Bank remains focused on key markets like Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East, recognizing clients' desire to diversify assets across regions amid geopolitical uncertainties. In lending, the bank is known for undertaking intricate deals, accepting various collateral types, from real estate to private equity portfolios. De Sanctis remains optimistic about the bank's private banking division, foreseeing increased lending revenues and volumes despite a prolonged high-interest rate environment.
