Challenge and Resilience, It's continuous.
Some of you may know that, I volunteer on the Contingent Management Team for Roverway 2024—an upcoming European International Scout Camp for 16-22 year old's scheduled for July, in Norway.
When I took on the CMT role a year ago, I anticipated it would be busy, but it would only be 18 months of busy and a whole life time of pride.
12 months in and Norway announced they've over estimated their capacity and a 40% reduction in participant numbers for all contingents exceeding 96 members. 96. We had over 550 committed participants, and now we face the daunting task of navigating this significant cut.
2 things...
1) Selecting those 60% to retain is a complex decision.
2) Ensuring those affected still have some kind of international opportunity is a main focus. But if attainable, what does this look like?
This has been and will be our task over Christmas, to find these answers and maintain transparency with our young people.
We don't know too much in this moment, but what I am certain about is that we have an incredible team. Though we may be small, we are mighty, comprised of incredible individuals with a range of experience and expertise, who are motivated, passionate and empowered to do the best we can.
I also know that our young people are phenomenal, if the World Jamboree didn't prove it, our Youth Forum did. Their patience and understanding were evident during the recent Youth Forum, where they continued to work on supporting members and patrols, uncertain of their own journey's continuity.
So, may be this cut wasn't what we expected, but life never is. I have no doubt the next 6 months wont be a little rough, but when you are surrounded by so many incredible people, there's always silver linings to motivate you through.
Huge love for my team, and this wild trip we're on!
Awesome to see! Great job Dermalogica!
